This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Quick query...
Anyone know the current location and status of NASM's Bell P-39 "Galloping Gertie"? It was on loan for a number of years to the Niagara Aerospace Museum, but may have returned to the Smithsonian recently; could be stored, might even be on show at Udvar-Hazy...?
TIA
S.

The current status of the P-39 is not listed on the Smithsonians site.

As 2003 it was still a stones throw from the falls. I took several pictures of it when I stopped on the way to Thunder over Michigan.

The Smithsonian is awful about updating their web site. Half the pictures they have of their own aircraft are 20 years old i.e. the Winnie Mae. It would be nice if you selected an aircraft from the list and it showed it as currently displayed. I think the P-38 pictures is a stock wartime photo...

Here are a few shots I took of the P-39

Tim,
Can't believe I missed this place when we went up to the falls after
Geneseo 2004.
Thanks for the pics.

I had to ask street venders where it was. When they gave me directions I realized they did not have a clue where it was. I found it after walking around for a while but it was not easy.
It is a good stop if you want to see the falls and other sites, but there is not too many a/c. But it does have a good amount of displays setup.
