Hey there, WIXers!

Just when you thought he'd faded into the sunset, America's favorite aviation hero is back in the limelight!

BURT AVEDON!

Veteran of the AVG, as well as multiple ace in the US Navy during both WWII & Korea. Navy Cross winner. Test Pilot. Founder of Top Gun. BURT AVEDON has done it all!

But don't take my word for it. Read up on Burt's latest commercial endeavor in the March/April 2015 issue of Sporting Classics!

Just for what it is worth, this is a different "Mr. Incredible" than the one Flying Tiger pilot R.T. Smith 'outed' back in 1990. That was Roland Sperry, the center of very sad story in itself. I worked with Sperry back in the late 1970s and he spun a good tale, to say the least.

It would appear Mr. Avedon makes similar claims and I suspect they would not hold up to any serious scrutiny.

Roland was a flight instructor at the flight school in Fullerton, CA where I got my private in 1981. I used to hop in the back seat to ride along with him and his students. He was soft spoken and never seemed to get excited. It could be 100 degrees out and he would always have his jacket on.
I thought at the time that his stories were tall tales. I knew immediately who Captain Incredible was when that issue of Air Classics came out. I also outed him to the father of an employee of the car dealership after he told me about the war hero former Tiger who was working there.
Just sad disgusting stories.

Roland was a salesman at Shaw Airmotive at Orange County Airport in the late 1970s/early 1980s....probably the same FBO owner as the Fullerton outfit. Nice guy, lots of stories, a minor celebrity. When I saw the stories later in Air Classics I realized it was the same guy. Hard to figure people out as to what motivates such stuff.

Scott, the FBO was Sac Aero, also owned by Stan. Now there is another character as you probably know.

I guess I diverted this thread a bit but I did work for Shaw Airmotive at KSNA from 1974 to 1982, first as a fuel driver and then as a CFI. Stan Shaw was the FBO owner and I observed much about his businesses from my lowly position. At one point, Roland was a salesman for Stan. I did not know he started as a CFI over at the Fullerton operation.

I guess, but most people like a little bit of attention. Few go to such lengths to fabricate intricate stories that are so easily proven as fabrications.

Roland Sperry died two years ago and surprisingly there was nothing online about it anywhere.

I also was surprised to find this also.

If yhttp://blogs.dailybreeze.com/history/2 ... us-flight/

If you google search he is also listed on a site that posts mug shots and it was recent. Anybody can accuse someone so it could have been false charges. Artemus Pyle of Skynyrd was accused of it and his own daughters he was alleged to have touched said it was false and his ex trying to get back at him.

We also get False Glory posers in the music world . We had a guy sit in who told us he was in Rainbow, except he made the mistake of telling us this without realizing I'm the biggest Blackmore super fan he could meet. Dumbass. He's also told people he was in three dog night. Now if you google him my post about it comes up. What was surprising was his own friends joined the forum and realized he was full of it too and posted their stories of his lies.

Heck, I got you all beat.
I handle liability investigations for auto accidents as my day job and last month, I talked with a guy on the phone who'd been in an accident and he claimed to be a former President of the United States!
He clearly wasn't all there because I was almost openly mocking his claim through the call and he didn't catch on.
For example, he said there were no witnesses to the accident he'd been in and I gasped in mock surprise and said, "Wait, your Secret Service detail didn't see it happen?" He changed the subject. The guy had to be nuts because he also claimed to be the Grandfather or at least 3 other former Presidents of the United States as well as the grandfather of the driver of the other car he'd hit (even though he couldn't tell me the name of that other driver).
I also once had someone claim to be a Medal of Honor awardee, a former USMC jet pilot who been awarded the Medal for taking a machine gun at Chosin. Of course, it was easy to confirm he'd never been awarded it. I was told by my boss not to confront him about that when he came to the office (we rarely ever see people face to face), and I had to choke that one down, which of course didn't sit well with me at all.
Soon afterward, one of my coworkers came to me with a name and asked if that was the name of an astronaut. It didn’t sound familiar so I looked it up. He wasn’t. Turned out, this jerk was telling people in my office that he walked on the moon! I am very glad I didn’t get that call because I would have called him out on it. Our management doesn’t take well with us telling people they’re full of it, even when they obviously are.

Burt Avedon also made up a claim he attended the US Naval Test Pilot School. His name does NOT appear in ANY class including the first class who founded the school (known as class 0).......

This man has made a fortune based on his "stolen glory "

Oh dear, Old Burt must be waxing nostalgic again.

Just look what he's gone and done this time:

Be sure to read the brief Preface, as it seeks to explain why he wrote this as an "adventure novel" rather than an autobiography.
