DoD contact for museums in search of aircraft

Mon May 04, 2015 9:13 am

Over on the FlyPast Forum someone started a thread about the International Helicopter Museum in the UK.
It's a large and well founded outfit, not an collection of airframes in a field (not that there is anything wrong with that...:) ).

One of the organization's executives responded that they haven't make meaningful contact with the DoD in receiving a Cobra and OH-58 (IIRC, I think they have received some DoD airframes in the past).

I can't believe the DoD can't help out a well known museum...and surely there must be some AH-1s and pre-D OH-58s out there.

Can anyone provide a good DoD contract I can pass onto them?

The Cobra and OH-58 helicopters belong to the Army.
There is a POC for museum aircraft for the Air Force at Dayton, but I do not know of the overall POC for Army museum aircraft. I have seen individual Army units donate aircraft to specific museums.

I'll gladly pass along the AF POC...I'm sure they could use it, as the museum also said it would like a H-21, and those occasionally come up as other museums close (like Pate).

The list of organizations with the NMUSAF wanting aircraft is pretty extensive.

We'll see how extensive with the ac from Chanute becoming available. :)
Sadly, I'll predict several will be scrapped.

Perhaps the helicopter museum will want the oddly painted UH-1B....

I'm sure we all hope for the best but expect the worse. The contact person at the NMUSAF stated that everything/anything will be done to find new homes for the aircraft.
