Oh, does anyone know if the tide tables come into the wind socks basement as well?

Thats a fantastic story Pete! We would love nothing more than to save the terminal building. I still believe the first original floor could be saved, but not without ALOT of money. Everyone in the museum agrees that it would be waaaaaay more cost effective to demolish the entire building and then build a brand new example on the foundation. Only problem is the runway proximity restrictions. Once the building falls, nothing can be built on that site. This goes for the other three buildings too.

Frank,
I don't believe they got any water in the basement during Sandy (believe it or not).

Oh, BTW guys, according to my CAF Warbird calendar hanging right above my desk, this Friday May 29th is a special anniversary. It says on May 29th 1940 the XF4U-1 made it's first flight!

75 Years! Anything special planned? Or will you guys just hoist a few at the Windsock?!

Well I do have Lyman Bullard's personal scrapbook in my possession currently on loan from his daughter and grandson.I am scanning in the materials and have a great, as far as I am aware, never see photo of the prototype dated from May 31st 1940 that we may let slip out to commemorate the day. Bullard did quite a bit as Vought's Chief Test Pilot, he had 50 test piolts under him during the war and handled coordination of all experimental and production testing. We also may be getting the log books from that famous flight on loan in the future (crossing fingers)

We were trying to get the ball rolling on another Corsairs over Connecticut but it didn't pan out. We didn't have enough sponsors or cooperation to pull it off for this year. A real shame, but we have been too busy with the hangar, continuing the restoration projects, the car show in September, and other smaller events.

Probably not. Windsor Locks is just a tad too far for usual drives for me. That and I will be in Geneseo for the airshow there, same weekend as the Vietnam show.

Well...Hopefully when you have the grand opening of the fully restored hangar you can put the gathering together then. That would really be something!
