A68-5, later G-ARKD. MustangsMustangs says "1961: Nov 21, withdrawn from UK registry as destroyed" but further Googling shows it popped up as a restoration project in the UK in 2012.

"Abandoned and left derelict in the open at Athens, Greece, 1961-1970. Reportedly broken-up for scrap at Athens, circa 1970. Recently the aircraft has “returned from the grave” and is reported in the ownership of Phil Earthy of Classic Flying Machine Collection Ltd, Norfolk UK. Where the machine has been for 51 years and what was left of it after its reported scrapping are unknown – efforts are being made to contact the owner to ascertain more details" - user setter1, 18-06-2012, http://www.warbirdz.net/forum/showthrea ... 514&page=3

Cheers Zac thanks for the info :drink3:
Also in regards to the pics Ewan has been posting, you know you're lucky when you are using P-51 wings as benches ;)

Hahaha yep indeed. Admittedly we put a few things on there as well when taking shots but they are quite the sturdy unit !

In relation to the Athens Mustang the owner has bought a decent number of parts of me recently on evilbay - my own personal stuff not related to the Museum project. I don't know the extent of the project etc but he may pop some pics up at some stage

Cheers

Interesting to know - wonder where on the airport it was? I remember the B-23 and C-82 that were abandoned at the same airport were taken over by an aviation trade school based there, which scrapped them later in the '70s; seen plenty of photos of them but no Mustang. Did the trade school have the remains of the Mustang tucked away?

Down to 18 days left of crowdfunding and we have just added an extra reward level - there are two left - $300 - includes all of the $200 pledge and the extra bonus on this is a SIGNED copy of Cam Care's excellent book THE 'STANG. The definitive book on Mustangs in the RAAF and beyond.

The funding project is in AUD so if contributing from overseas it actually works out cheaper - ie $5AUD is about $4.20 :) Almost over the line now, the crew on Wix have been nothing short of awesome in their support

Please share and let's get this over the line - http://pozi.be/mustang

It's entirely possible, I've seen the username on a few websites. :drink3:

The end is in sight ! With 13 days to go we are at 90% of target - just 498AUD to go. Been a helluva ride but almost there. Anyone that has thought about chipping in but not done so yet, nows the time :D

Cheers

Thanks to good people like yourselves here on WIX, we have hit the target of 5k with 11 days left to go. A fantastic result and goes straight into our fund which is already nearly 10% of overall target just from private contributions. You can still chip in to the Pozible campaign or use one of the other methods on our website.

Now the fun begins for me to start getting packages ready !

Cheers!
