Seeing how much the government just throws away, 500 million is just a drop in the bucket. But still a very big number for sure.

$500 million isn't a large amount compared to the £7 Billion we Brits are going to have to find to repair the our Houses of Parliment the Palace of Westminster.

Wow. For perspective, the entire cost of the initial phase Udvar-Hazy center from design through move-in is generally quoted as a bit over $300 million, although those were 2000-03 dollars.

What an incredible price tag. It's a shame that the building wasn't built in a more sustainable fashion. The NMUSAF expansion at $35 million seems like a real bargain. I place a high value on preserving these artifacts, but there has to be a better solution.
