Denver would be a good location, but I would like to second the old-Olathe KS air base. This is now called the New Century Air Center (IXD-KIXD). Links below:
http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/facility/olathe.htm
http://www.airnav.com/airport/KIXD
It is between Olathe, KS (pronounced O-LAY-THA) and Gardner, KS about 45 minutes drive from downtown KC. Between Overland Park, Olathe, and Gardner, there are plenty of hotel rooms and plenty for the spouses to do. Olathe and Gardner are right along I-35 between KC and Wichita.

Just a suggestion...
And yes, I lived in Olathe for five years (1997-2002)...

I second the Denver location....3 big outlying airfields from which to choose (Centennial in the south of town, Front Range to the east, and Jeffco to the north), 3 local Mustangs (Mike Bertz's 'Stang Evil, Joe Thibodeau's Crusader, and a guy who splits his time in his P-51 between Denver and Utah....and Gordon Page restoring one for flight...) Great summer weather, not humid, beautiful flying weather and fantastic photography over the Rocky Mountains (would share some pics but waiting for my article to run in Warbird Digest, they have the pics)....It would be a great location! Think about it, kids!!

I heard it from a guy who heard it from a guy (sorry, couldn't resist) that seems to think Rickenbacker is getting the nod. Not mentioning any names, but one of them is a Mustang pilot.

In the latest Flight Journal they had a small article about this gathering. It stated they are still searching for a more "centralized geographic" location! :D

How about just east of Reno a bit :D Wendover has a huge ramp, 5 casino/hotels and another 3-4 standard motels all within walking distance of the airport. PLUS, you can park you plane in an original World War II hangar! The town is also very amenable to "dawn patrol" flights.
