This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

I've photographed a lot of air shows over the years, but this remains one of the very best I've ever seen. The lineup included 22 Mustangs, 2 P-38s, 2 Corsairs, a P-63 and two Centaurus Sea Furies. There were 5 days of flying, with flying happening all day. There were photo passes by B-17, B-29 and A-26. Aerobatics by Art Scholl and by Frank Sanders in his lovely Sea Fury, along with startling JU-52 demos each day.
It was all quite something to behold...

cool photo - looks like 1979 by the large "5" on the RB-51's tail?
Some of the planes in the photo I think I can ID off the top of my head are: yellow nosed P-51 (Lou IV?), RB-51, Crocker's Sumthin Else, Red Baron Team's Flying Undertaker (?), Howie's Miss America, 924, Baby Gorilla, Dan Martin's RRIII, Passion Wagon(?), CWH Corsair.

Were the two P-38s at the show the same pair that was in the Baa Baa Black Sheep episode? Always wondered which two those were.

Wow Bob Hoover looks kinda young there. How did he fit his pit crew in the mustang?

The airshow was the 1979 Miami Air Races
- P-38's were Lefty Gardner and Gary Levitz
- one of the Corsairs was then from Canadian Warplane Heritage, raced by Dennis Bradley.
- P-63 was the Whittington's "F" model
- Sea Furies were Lloyd Hamilton and Frank Sanders
- Ju-52 was author Martin Caiden
...not being able to get there is still one of my great disappointments.

You should be disappointed -- it was absolutely one of the great events I've ever attended. We stayed in a trailer on site, so it was Mustangs and Racing 24 hours a day for 5 days. Heaven for a young photographer and Warbird fan...
