Great thread. A few years before I entered the world, but it's great to see some airplanes I've seen up close and personal as they were back then.

I wish gas was still cheap and parts plentiful so we could still see these kinds of races across the US today. The success of the Red Bull Air Races indicates to me that the public would eat up this kind of thing again.

I miss this airplane. Lloyd ran good all week, and finished second in the Silver Race at 335 mph. He was being pretty conservative, as Homestead Florida is a LONG way from Santa Rosa California.

The fast guys were running hard -- pushing 400 mph laps at Sea Level on a very short 7 mile course. There were complaints of greying out when turning the narrow ends of the race course.

Found some more Miami stuff. Here's one of the two Canadian entries.

I too want to thank you for the pics Neal. For my money you can never post too much of this stuff and threads like these are one of the primary reasons I "hang out" at WIX. / Long drawn out threads are the best kind! :)

Yep, this is an incredibly good thread, please keep 'em coming -- you hit a sweet spot for sure! pop2 And to expand on C VEICH's comments, this is the very sort of thing that keeps me contributing (a little) $ to WIX (Ref: the Contribute/Donate menu at top of this site :D ).
