Yesterday, I managed to make it to the Warhawk museum in Nampa, Idaho.
It is a small museum, but it is one that is worth visiting with plenty of time. There are the usual displays with WW-II photos and memorabilia, but
the displays here are very appealing because you get to see items not regularly shown elsewhere; from an Aldis lamp, through bakelite aircraft
identification models, through era-toys, jewelry, etc., all nicely displayed.
The aircraft inside the hangar yesterday, were:
AT-28D 51-3557 NX85228
NAF N3N-3 1918 N45305
Curtiss P-40 NX94466
Curtiss P-40 2106396
N.A.A. P-51C under restoration.
Grummann F8F-2 121748 NX224RD
Fokker Tri-plane replica
Remains of CG-4 Waco glider
Packard-built RR Merlin V-1650-3
Allison V-1710-81
OX-5
Radial engine (I did not write the model down.)
Outside the hangar, there is an Unid. F-86 Sabre, wings, engine.
The F8F as you all know, is Mr. Ray Dieckman's.
The airplane was being readied for a possible ferry flight back to Chino, weather permitting.
In any case, the airplane was towed out of the hangar, fired up and flow for one circuit, and then landed to refuel. At this point, I had to
leave the airfield and museum, to go to work . . .
With my thanks to Max Pearcy, Dave King and Tony Spears!
