I think mustangdriver wins the prize with 36 of them! Are there any B-17s in the U.S. that you haven't seen?

Haha. I have a B-17 addiction. I'm still missing the Dyess and Lackland birds. But plan to see them soon.

Welcome, Thor! Your list is as impressive as mustangdrivers, and perhaps even more so because you are coming from Denmark to see all of these.

This thread has been fun. Glad to see there are people out there who have had the same idea. I still think it would be awesome to do this in a single epic road trip.

How about pictures?
I think many of us would like to see the Forts through the years. When I was in the service, I volunteered on B-17G Sentimental Journey in the early 80's in AZ. got transferred to Castle AFB in Merced/Atwater CA in the late 80's and worked on B-17G Virgins Delight. Now retired and back in Chicagoland, been out to see B-17E Deseret Rat, and the rest of the "touring" Fortresses. Oshkosh is always good for at least 2 or 3 forts per year.
I will dig some out of the old photo albums and scan them in for posting.

Here's my list, which is also not nearly as impressive as Mustangdriver's:

Flew Aboard:

Sentimental Journey

Crawled Around Inside Of:

Aluminum Overcast
Fuddy Duddy
Movie Memphis Belle
Liberty Belle
Miss Liberty Belle (Grissom, on way to Warner Robins)
Old 909
Picadilly Lilly
Preston's Pride (Tulare AmVets)
Champaign Lady (The guys let me poke my head inside some of the fuselage components. I'd say that counts. :) )

Seen, but unable to go inside of: (Yet  )

Shoo Shoo Baby (NMUSAF)
Starduster (March Field)
I'll Be Around (Pima)
Virgin's Delight (Castle. BTW, Open Cockpit Day is September 6. I'll be there.)
Heaven Above (Didn't have that name when I saw it at Lackland during boot camp)
King Bee (Strategic Air Command Museum)
