Never Before Published Photos of Army Flat Olive Drab T-41B

Thu Aug 13, 2015 10:54 am

I recently acquired a number of color slides along with the copyrights taken by the well known photographer R. Pickett. In this group of slides are several photos of US Army T-41B aircraft at the Cessna Pawnee Plant in 1972. These aircraft were being modified and were being updated with the latest avionics. Some of the tail numbers IE 67-15008) eventually ended up with the RTAF several years later but the disposition and service of some other aircraft remains unknown (IE 67-15003).

As we know it was around this time that there was a serious shortage of Cessna O-1 aircraft and the Air Force had already made plans to beef up fixed wing inventory in Laos with U-17 and T-41D aircraft to replace losses of O-1s.

67-15016, before and after modification. This aircraft eventually ended up with the Royal Thai Army, repainted a darker Olive green with yellow tips and different size and color tail #..

This one gives a little better detail. T-41B 67-15008 was transferred to the Thai Army in 1973 along with a large number of Army O-1s currently in Vietnam.
