Yes, that guy surfed right over the top of the wreck and probably doesn't know it.
There are calm days with no surf, especially during the summer mornings.
Forget about it during the winter high surf.

Isnt this the short tailed K model? If it is I remember the cowling and the canopy still in place on this bird.Looks as if someone has removed both.The front bulkhead for the cowling is still intact and the top cowl has 3/8s bolts that secure it fore and aft and that area looks way too clean to have rotted away.I hope somebody gets that bird out some day.Good luck yall.

My thoughts too. The cost of the barge and lifting equipment on site would likely be closer to $25K per hour.

Considering the plane is in 10 ft. of water and airbags are available for rent/sale, and if someone actually does most of the work themselves the cost could be in the 25k area. If the plane was in deeper water then yes a barge would/could be utilized and divers would be needed. What I'm talking about is just the recovery. Preservation and transportation would no doubt increase the cost.

It is not very far off shore. bottom and shore line is all sand.
There is road access to the beach
Maybe blow the sand off of it and somehow drag it ashore.

I believe the main problem is what to do with it once you get it outta the water.

I don't know everything about salvage. I suspect the airframe is 100% full of sand. Unless someone wants to repeat the PBY fiasco, you MUST remove the sand. Just my thoughts after pulling a couple of P-40 and P-51 wrecks out the water in Florida.

I do know a little about the Navy. Please read about Title XIV. I suspect the U.S. Navy will view this as "their" property. This will end it.
I hope I am wrong.

It is an Air Force plane, that crashed when the base belonged to the Navy, but is now a Marine Corps base. And the State of Hawaii claims it as a cultural resource.
But the Marine Corps reports it as a hazard.

It is a P-40K, no official accident report, but pilot claims it was his. According to his oral description, he had engine failure and ditched his plane off Pyramid Rock Beach on May 8, 1943. He was part of the 73rd Fighter Squadron of the 318th Fighter Group.

Never did learn where to look for the Master Data plate to confirm serial number.
