Looks like the tire was flat when he touched down. It wanted to go over on the nose and you can see a minor prop strike. But he saved the aircraft. Hats off to the pilot

According to the audio, they rolled immediately after the aircraft came to a stop. It appears the fire trucks were holding at A7 (just in front of the fire station) and that's the BIG runway, so they were over a mile away (6000+ feet down the runway from where he stopped between A2 and A3). The problem I have with the video is that there is a cut which removes any ability to determine the true response time since we don't know how long the cut was. If it was only a few seconds, then for an emergency without fire and the aircraft upright (i.e. no extraction needed), it looks like a normal response and well within the guidelines.

I would have landed with the canopy open and been out right after I stopped, can't figure out why he stay in so long.

Yes I thought the same thing regarding the canopy, when I watched him coming in to land and also I was surprised he didn't kill the motor a lot sooner, but in all fairness it's easy to comment when you're not in the hot seat. He did a good job.

Messing around with shutting down the engine and maybe trying to set the prop at a different angle in the flare or rollout is a major distraction. Not to mention the guys that get distracted and then stall it at 25 feet and cartwheel or ground loop. Insurance and mechanics will take care of the engine and prop. Fly it through the crash!

That looked and sounded like Bud Granley on the radio, the video was a little grainy but it looked like Bud. One of the most experienced warbird pilots around and he did a masterful job of saving the airplane. So armchair pilots need not comment. Don
