The Stirling photo's
"Short Stirling EF133 HA-A seen here on a Yank aerodrome August 1944. A-Apple was the regular mount of Squadron Leader John Overton DFC “A” Flight Commander. An ex XV Squadron aircraft it arrived on the squadron December 19th 1943. The aircraft completed 30 raids with the squadron before transfer to No.149 (East India) Squadron on August 11th 1944. While with 149 the aircraft carried out 1 Air Sea Rescue flight before passed onto No.1651 CU on September 13th. The aircraft was SoC April 24th 1945."

Thx John, great photos. I guess when I saw the photo of the Jeep pulling the P-38 I was thinking way too much weight to be pulling for a Jeep. Guess not ...

If you can't afford a warbird, a Jeep is the next best thing!
I used one (albeit a late CJ-5 from 1977) as a daily driver when I was in the Air Force. I even let my airmen borrow it on office business.
I always loved driving past the static B-17 in it.

I had a '45 Willy's....loved it!

BTW for all the rivet-counters....the flying jeep above is actually a BANTAM BRC-40 rather than a Willy's or Ford. The rounded fender and lack of tool fittings under the driver door are the tells.

There's a local guy who I occasionally see around the airport.
He has an early pre-standardized Ford "GP" with the rounded door entry and the instrument cluster from a 40 Ford.
It's rusty and now orange. From what I hear it's rare, with some 3000 built, and he has another at home.
