This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Melchior - The list Photogator has provided verifies what the data tag shows in the photo I have. The F7U-3 BuNo 129679 tag shows serial no. A20 -162 which aligns with the lot of 20, fifth column down.

Many thanks for your help, really appreciated!
So it could be the earlier aircraft had like "A14", "A28" etc....
If you can share the picture, we have
http://wiki.scramble.nl/index.php/CN_Locations_T which still can use a picture of a Vought id plate.

Does anybody have any information on the Midway's F7U restoration?
Mon Nov 09, 2015 8:00 pm
Hey Cliff, The Vought Retirees are working on it back at the Dallas plant.
Due to circumstances with the moving of Triumph and all the items associated
with the property changing hands the restoration had been stopped for over a year.
I was researching drawings for the windshield side panels not that long ago.
I have some fairly recent pictures that I will post, not sure if this is the right thread or not.

Melchior:
I too concur - my 129622 bears #106 on all tags and handwritten numbers on many component panels. Likewise, 129554 carries #38

From the Longshot Scrapyards thread, one that didn't make it:
F7U-3 Cutlass 129679:

"Henry - NAS New Orleans 1-29-74"

"Removal attempt - NAS New Orleans 1-25-74"

...I had an opportunity to try and rescue the remains early in 1974. Weather and lack of equipment and problems in breaking down aircraft forced me to abandon attempt. It took more than a year later for Cutlass to show up on DOD bid. My understanding was Navy tried to knock down Cutlass with bulldozer, but only proceeded to wreck all surfaces. BuNo Is 129679

You'll need to put that image on a photo hosting site (Flickr, Photobucket, Fotki) and paste the image location between the img tags.
