Reunited

Fellow Wixers -- as many of you know, the Military Aviation Museum in Va. Beach is home for a beautiful new addition, a truly magnificent ME-109, recently restored by the wizards of Meier Motors in Germany. What you may not know is that we are fortunate enough to have as a friend - and frequent visitor to the museum an original ME-109 pilot, Mr. Hans Meyer. Hans was a 17 year old who flew 109s and was lucky enough to live to tell the tale! Hans was in JG 54, and we were privileged to have him at the museum Saturday to be reunited with his aircraft - some 70 years after he last saw one. It was indeed a special moment.

Pretty cool - at 17 a fighter pilot! Wow think about putting a 17 year old in a F-16 and sending them off to fight - pretty amazing when you think about it!

Thank you for sharing. I can't even imagine what memories were going through Mr. Meyer's head as he sat in the Me-109.

Herr Meyer is quite an entertaining fellow, and a real pleasure to talk to. You can order copies of his biography directly from him; the information is found on this page.

I had him sign my old "BF-109" license plate and it proudly hangs in my workroom. (My current plate is "BF 109K4"... no, I'm not obsessed with 109s, whatever would give you that idea?)

Cheers,

Willy... err, I mean Lynn

Being able to share a moment like this, with a veteran, is very special indeed.
I would love to hear more about the experience of this day.

By the way, has the 109 flown in the U.S. yet?
