Combat!

Mon Dec 21, 2015 1:40 am

Was watching recently a re-run of Combat! the series, with Vic Morrow et al.

The episode deals with the shooting down of a P-38 and the rescue of the pilot and the camera film.

The P-38 looked very complete (not a moc-kup) with intact propellers, and IIRC the cockpit aft was there, but do not recall seeing the twin booms.

So, does anyone know if this was a P-38 that survived the T.V. studios?

Saludos,

Tulio

Per Dodger: October 1963, Photos #19% and 21%. Both show another view of the P-38 Lightning fighter owned by MGM and seen in the episode "Anatomy of a Patrol". MGM owned an assortment of WWII aircraft bodies used for filming and sold all of them at auction in the 70's. This scene was filmed near the large `lake' on Lot #2. For a connection, look at Photo #12, September 1963. That photo shows Earl Parker standing in front of the `lake' with a river steamboat on the left side of the picture. Note the brown, two story `colonial style' building in the background between Earl and the steamboat. The same building is seen in the upper left of the P-38 in Photo 19%, October 1963.
