Anybody have any photos of famous aviation peeps that they have personally taken, and would like to share ? Just an idea...any takers ?..Might this be the right forum for this ?

I have one of John Cruickshank, Gunther Rall, Johnny Johnson, Bill Reid and Walker 'Bud' Mahurin taken at Duxford back in 2000 standing in front of a Hurricane out on the flightline....they were a blast to listen too.....they cam eout onto the flight line and Gunther was joking 'What kind of plane is this? I've never seen it before" to the rest of the guys....they cracked jokes and shared stories and whispered things between themselves...fun to watch....at the end of the photo shoot...Bill Reid comes over to my partner Denise and grabs her by the hands and asks "Did you get all the shots you needed?" to which Denise said yes....then Bill goes "Oh good...now we can go inside and have another pint!" and walks off, leaving Denise looking at me like "Who was that old guy?".....great moment, unfortunately NOT one I captured on film but fun nonetheless...

Me with Bill and Buck Patillo the first left and right wing pilots of the Thunderbirds.
Bill's P-51 was called Sweet and Lovely and was recently restored by Bob Backer.
Buck's was called Little Rebel and will be the next one Bob Backer restores.
(I had too do a little edit on myself im sure youll understand) :wink:

No photo but I met Group Captain Hamish Mahaddie (he of rounding up Mosquitoes for "633 Squadron" and all the Spitfires, Hurricanes, Buchon's and CASA-Heinkels for "Battle of Britain" fame) at an airshow in Hamilton, Ontario years ago. Fascinating chap; said acquiring all the aircraft for BoB almost had him pulling his hair out at times. I told him that I felt his efforts with BoB especially had done a lot to help get the warbird preservation movement going and he seemed flattered at that. Also met Russ Bannock of 418 Squadron, Mosquito pilot extraordinaire from the RCAF's top-scoring fighter squadron in WW2 at a Mosquito seminar a couple of years ago. He also was one of De Havilland Canada's top test pilots post war and eventually went on to become the president of the company. He said he'd had an opportunity to fly the gorgeous De Havilland Hornet that was brought to Canada for cold weather testing and was going to race it in the States but a famous, tragic accident at the Cleveland race brought racing in the U.S. to an end in the late 1940's before he could. No photos of him either I'm afraid.

i had an unpublished pic of amelia earhart & putnam sitting on the running board of a car at the cleveland air races. sold it for a nice buck!! :D

The correct name of the owner of the P51 (44-73279) painted and marked as Bill Patillo's "Sweet & Lovely" is Bob Baker (not Backer).

I'm sure you meant to say that this is not the "original" WWII "Sweet & Lovely (44-14790), but an award-winning restoration to a high degree of authenticity.

The 352nd FG's P-51D "Little Rebel" wasn't Buck Pattilo's a/c.
It was assigned to Lt Alton Wallace and has the serial # of 44-13373 and
coded PZ*W. I have an original shot given to me by 486th FS pilot Tom Colby. Wallace also flew a OD P-51B "Little Rebel" PZ*W s/n 43-7022. Pattilo may have flown the airplane but it was assigned to Wallace!

Second to ww2John: Correct I didnt mean it was the original plane. That one (44-14790) I belive was destroyed in a crash when Bill became a POW.
Therd to Jack Cook: I have no idea. He just told me that the name of his P-51 was Little Rebel.

Regarding Little Rebel, this is the email I received from Buck:

This is my recollection of answers to your questions. (Bill agrees with me on the dates.)

1. Bill and I reported to the 352nd in early November 1944.

2. Bill and I were re-assigned from Bodney to Germany in early September 1945

3. I inherited “Little Rebel” from Al Wallace when he left the 352nd. (January 1945.)
