It's beyond pitiful, it's a monment to ignorance and stupidity.
You can't fix stupid. I still can't believe it happened.

Just feel like crying looking at that photo.

Having spent hundreds of work hours on our airworthy PBY at HARS its just makes my skin crawl.

Yes, it very heart wrenching to something like this happen to any warbird (or aircraft if you are a true wingnut). But also a grim reminder that the winds of change surround us. Just be glad no human lives were lost on this one.
The Lodestar picture didn't come thru on my computer, but I received an email with a pic of the Lodestar in Pima....I do like the paint scheme....a lot. Lady Lodestar lives on....

The Lodestar is all done. I think it looks pretty good.

That does indeed look good! Much better sight than seeing her rotting out in the elements at PVG the past several years.

I drove past the PBY the day it was heading up I-45 from Galveston, while on its way to Pima. I had been a few hundred yards away from it for several weeks as the crew was taking it apart and getting it ready to transport. I was taking apart the rotted C1-Trader. The day it left, I just happened to be northbound on I-45 at the same time they went through Houston. It was an impressive sight going down the road. The crew taking apart the PBY really impressed me with their efficiency at safely dismantling such a large aircraft.

Can you make enquiries about the likely future for the four damaged Catalina hulls that are at Pima too? - many thanks.

They said that they were going to use the other 4 for parts for the Lone Star PBY. He did mentioned that they were owned by other parties. Its a must see museum and go early so that you can go over to DM AFB. Also a great side trip is about 20min's South of Tucson is the Titan II museum. You go on a guided tour down into the silo and one can turn the key to launch it. Makes one wonder what the modern day installations look like as this one was built in the early 60's.
