I have finally scanned my pictures taken in 1996. They are posted on Webshots and ready for you to view. Enjoy!

Canadian Warplane Heritage - 1996
http://community.webshots.com/album/547439001ZXCNwU
This was a transition year for the CWH. The moved from their original hangers at the Mount Hope airport into the current modern building. This album includes pictures taken in both buildings.

Indiana National Guard, Indianapolis, Indiana, USA - 16 February 1996
http://community.webshots.com/album/547437621dSbWtn
When in Indianapolis on business I stopped by the Indiana National Guard and found a F-101 parked on what used to be one of the runways. Apparently this one is now in the Air Park at Grissom AFB. It was in very rough shape when I photographed it.

Ottawa International Airport, ON, Canada - 29 April 1996
http://community.webshots.com/album/547442065kAFKyD
There isn’t much in this album except for a few poor quality pictures of a two-engined Convair propliner. It is thought this airframe was impounded after an unsuccessful drug running flight from Columbia to Canada. I haven't had the time to look any further into this yet.

Memorial Military Museum, Campbellford, ON, Canada - 8 June 1996
http://community.webshots.com/album/547442163IIFivz
Here are some pictures from the Memorial Military Museaum. This is a private informal collection of airframes some, in decent shape, other not doing so well. My favorite is the CF-100 Mk 2. The Canso and Expeditor hulks are interesting as well.

Hamilton International Air Show, ON, Canada - 15 June 1996
http://community.webshots.com/album/547437626IyjLLI
Apparently Hamilton wasn’t what is used to be, even in 1996, but I enjoyed the show. This was my first time to photograph the CWH Firefly and the MATS Connie (now in South Korea). I also got some shots of the CWH Vampire basking in the sun and a Luftwaffe F-4 pointing the afterburners in my direction. I tried to take a picture, but it was hard with the kerosene filled wind in my face!

National Capital Air Show, Ottawa, ON, Canada
http://community.webshots.com/album/547440277FwRHcI
Not much in terms of warbirds at this show. Bummer.

Henry Ford Museum, Dearborn, MI, USA - 16 July 1996
http://community.webshots.com/album/547436833IDZpiz
While on vacation I stopped by the Henry Ford Museum. There were a few classic aircraft in the true sense of the word. I actually was looking at the original Sikorsky VS-300 (or at least the last version of it rebuilt by Sikorsky).

Grissom AFB Air Park, Indiana, USA - 17 July 1996
http://community.webshots.com/album/547436835SVUqrP
While on my way to Dayton, I made a stop by Grissom AFB to photograph the aircraft in the airpark there. Apparently I was into doing walk-around photos at the time, and I got some good close-ups of the KC-97.

Dayton International Air & Trade Show, OH, USA - 18 July 1996
http://community.webshots.com/album/547436837NLVkbN
Not very many warbirds at this show in 1996. There was an early model T-34 there (for which I still don’t have an ID). The Air Zoo F7F put on a nice flying display. It was also the first and only show where I was able to get close-up pictures of the C-17.

Wings of Eagles Air Show, Batavia, NY, USA - 17 August 1996
http://community.webshots.com/album/547438709OxTcbG
This has to be one of the best air show I have ever attended. Who could forget the formation barrel rolls with the F7F and F-14 Tomcat!?!?!? Now that was a show!

Mackie Transportation, Oshawa, ON, Canada - 24 August 1996
http://community.webshots.com/album/547436723oPPJpd
In this album you will find pictures of an Oshawa land mark that is no longer there. For many years there was an A-26 mounted on the roof of a moving company’s building. You will find a few shots in this album.

RCAFA 447 Wing, Mount Hope, ON, Canada - 28 December 1996
http://community.webshots.com/album/547436725qBWJgc
And finally you will find a few pictures of the pylon mounted CF-100 at the Mount Hope airport, just down the road from the CWH.

Regards,

Mike

Do you want to find locations of displayed, stored or active aircraft? Then start with the The Locator.
Do you want to find or contribute to the documented history of an aircraft? If so then start with the Airframes Database.

Hey Mike.

Great stuff, I especially liked seeing the O-2 in army colors. (1996-33-14)
Jimmy Grenier owned the airplane back then. It was one of two "Flag Carriers" used in Germany.

So I have the wrong owner on it then? I will correct that.

He sold it about 5 years ago, he now has a navion in army colors.
If the weather is good on Sunday we will probably see him at Plum Island. (2B2)

I especially liked the Henry Ford Museum pictures. Their web site is awful and they don't have pictures of the majority of their collection. You filled the gap. Thanks!

If you, or anyone else for that matter, has and serial number or construction number info about the aircraft in that collection please let me know. I am missing ID info on many of the aircraft and would appreciate any tips.

I put what information I have in the captions, so if you see a caption that is blank or missing info and you have it please let me know.

Do you mean 1996-33-15, this one?...

There are two Navions I don't have IDs for at that show.

#2: 1996-33-19

Do you have a s/n, c/n or c/r in your notes? If anyone has any info to share on these two airframes please let me know!

Navion B N5308K NAV-4-2208B owned by Allen Roggen. Based at Geneseo.

In fact I think you have this one on a few pages as un-IDed.

Neither are L-17s and neither are the Moses Navion. It is actually:

I'm not sure the N number. I should be able to find it at home.

Thanks for the help Jim! It most certainly does help. I am looking forward to what you can dig up on that one at Geneseo in 1995.

Thanks Mike for the Henry Ford Museum pics. The museum moved the aircraft displays to a different part of the museum. The new displays are presented in diorama settings in seperate rooms. This makes photography difficult because you're smushed right into the display. The original building structure is also hidden by modern steel studs and drywall forming a maze of aircraft, walls, ramps, and interactive displays for the kiddies. I hope the rest of the museum won't end up like that. The building interior is a masterpiece alone.

Hey Mike,
The shots from Batavia bring back some great memories. I miss seeing the Kalamazoo fighters. Any idea where that Harpoon is now?
