Big news for us, in Geneseo...

The National Warplane Museum announced and celebrated the newest aircraft addition to the fleet based and operated in Geneseo, NY. After a 4 year tour, the B-17, The Movie Memphis Belle, has returned home. Following her journey and arrival at Geneseo, annual maintenance routines will be commenced to bring her to full operating condition for the 2016 flying season.

The Movie Memphis Belle was the star of the 1990 Hollywood film, “The Memphis Belle” featuring an all- star cast including Matthew Modine, Tate Donovan, Harry Connick, Jr. and John Lithgow. The film was a fictionalized story of the 25th and last mission of the Memphis Belle during World War II while based in England.
Manufactured by Boeing and primarily operated by the Army 8th Airforce during WWII, the B-17’s were the first heavy bombers to penetrate Germany in January 1943.
The Memphis Belle and her crew were not only famous for being the first B-17 crew to successfully complete the typical 25 mission tour of duty, but were also able to return from every mission with every member of their crew.

During her long term residence at National Warplane Museum, The Movie Memphis Belle will be on display to the public, available for tours and eventually will provide (pending FAA approval) Living History Flight Experiences. The Movie Memphis Belle will continue her work here in Geneseo, NY, as well as touring the air show circuit and will be visiting additional aviation, museum and tourism venues throughout the east coast, ensuring that the historical legacies of the aircraft and the Veterans who flew with them, are kept alive and at the forefront of the minds of our nation’s youth and leaders of tomorrow.

Hopefully this is a "win-win" for both parties. The Tallichet family has seen that their B-17 can be operated skillfully at at a modest profit and will continue to keep it airworthy and available. Second, maybe this means the Liberty Foundation is anticipating using their talent and focus on a flight program for the XP-82 this year!

The Movie Memphis Belle made a stop due to the snowy weather in NE Tennessee at Tri-Cities Regional Airport on her way to Geneseo. I was lucky enough to get some great photos of her in the snow.

Probably wishful thinking due to the 'marketing' opportunities of the name Memphis Belle, but I hope that the square D is a hint that the aircraft will be repainted in a 100th bg scheme.

Dang, I didn't even know it was here Davo. Those are beautiful shots on the ramp.

The 100th BG markings will be a good draw considering the new HBO mini-series will be coming out soon and it will be a nice tie in.

Looking good, although the Square D looks out of place for the MB markings. A cracking picture though.
That said it's not my aeroplane and so the owners are entitled to paint it in whatever way they want!
I'm just glad it's still flying!
I have been lucky enough to have flown in her a few times.
By the way, what has happened to the top turret?

Jeremy Kladke She did have the full top turret prior to liberty foundation getting their hands on her. Then LF modified her to have just the turret dome and put a few seats in behind the pilot and copilot seats. I don't know how the turret dome came to be completely removed, but the national warplane museum says they have the top turret and will be installing it at a later date.

The XP-82 is a Tom Reilly project. The Liberty Foundation is not involved.
