Well since I have to wait for a set of wildcat drawings to get here to hope I have better views I decided to work on my other favorite project to relieve stress thats the P-51B. I have the full factory drawings and all the books and the NAA drawings and merlin books so I have everything here. I worked on a 3rd scale RC version so I am fairly familiar with the plane. even got a great paint scheme for inspiration. It was the plane of Polish Squadron leader Eugeniusz Dzi'obek' Horbaczewski CO of No 315 Sqn RAF June 1944.

Whats so cool is one his buddies got shot down and he landed his plane in the middle of a ground battle and with bullets whizzing by him from both sides landeg his plane kept motor running jumped out got his buddy sat him on his lap and flew off into the sunset.

Got to love stories like that. anyways heres the scheme for that plane what else is cool is it has a malcom hood

Had a blast doing it. The only problem we had was when Joseph gave me control of his computer and my Linux box choked and slowed way down. Kudos to Jim MacDonald for the IPB file. It's a huge help in finding parts and related drawing numbers for Joseph's project. If you have never had the chance to watch a CAD driver work, pop on and watch sometime. I will warn you tho, if you have ANY problem with vision induced nausea, don't watch with your face close into the monitor, staring at what is going on. Sit back a bit and watch. A good operator, like Joseph, is going to be zooming, panning, swapping files and more, sometimes at what seems to be a frenetic pace at times and can be visually disturbing to some observers. Don't need anyone to fall out due to vertigo from watching!

Haha you should see me tonight copying pasting and saving all the IBP part sheets onto my puter for the P-51B

Well got the parts sheet listing and pulled up the furst bulkhead station on P-51 sheet 73-31172 but having problems understanding how to get the outside shape. I see dimensions etc for holes and notches but no radii or anything. I shink I am missing some sheets somewhere as I think this is an assy sheet

That's why I have to go the amateur SW user's route & trace over the F6F drawings instead of using the dimensions & trying to draw them myself.

I got tied up & wasn't able to get to the post office before they closed. I'll send out the the FM-2 drawings first thing Monday (your Sunday), I'll send them Express or whatever the fastest way they have over here is. Sorry about the delay.

Well I want them to be accurate in case someone eventually uses them for replacement part drawings on a restoration. with so many of the old drawings getting harder to read if there was a complete digitized cad drawn set avail it would be nice. and thats part of my goal is to cad up several sets of drawings as i grow old and do at least a couple planes in 3D

Can anyone tell me what the airfoil of the Horizontal Stab is on the P-51B?

Says the ordinate drawing is 73-00012 but Aircorps doesnt have that sheet and my sheets arent listed by sheet number only microfilm numbers

I think NACA 0010 is too thin for it

Even tho it days D model, a number of the pages are for the B. You should be able to plot the profile via the given dims.

Thanks CV that will help a lot with dims you dont normally find easily on the drawings

well I took a NACA 0010 airfoil and the 24" station and going by the rough length of 42.919 " for the station enlarged the airfoil which gave a max thickness of4.2933" then enlarged the station drawing to the roughly proper size (I say rough cause we all know the drawings themselves could be off slightly) and its thickness was 4.3594"

Well I used the drawing vs the Naca 0010 and the difference in thickness was only small amt .06 and some numbers so I just enlarged the max thickness to match now I have a base rib to use for lofting and will be very close

well need to run honey does so be back at it in abt 4 hrs and get my stab lofted up woot I might actually get somewhere today

Hey guys been slow worked 13 hrs yest getting ready for inv tomorrow good thing I got wed and thurs off lol anyways I got a few things in the mail so I can bounce back to the Wildcat now so short night tonight only 4 hrs so lot of drawing later tonight and the next 2 days will post progress once get there

Ok I have found the Airfoils for the Wildcat NACA 23015 For the Root and NACA 23009 For the Tip

My question Now is where on the Factory Drawings do I find the Washout in the Wing? Or if there even is one
