Defuniak Springs Tribute to Vietnam Aviation 4/23/2016

Sun Apr 24, 2016 11:42 am

Great event yesterday, well supported by Vietnam era aircraft including my T-41B, a T-28, three O-1s,OV-1 Mohawk, one Cobra and one Huey.

Met a lot of wonderful people, and the BBQ cook off contest was excellent. :)

Weather was really nice with only a few scattered low clouds when we departed early yesterday morning that burned off quickly.

I find this list is pretty comprehensive and covers all of the states.

Speaking of Viet Nam commemorations...
This past weekend (April 23-24) was the NAS JRB Fort Worth Air Show, which featured a Viet Nam airpower demo and a hangar set up as a Viet Nam educational exhibit with many organizations displaying artifacts and numerous lecturers giving talks. From memory, the aircraft participating in the VN flying display were:

A-26 Invader (CAF Invader Sqn)
T-37 Tweet in A-37 colors (owner unknown to me)
TA-4J Skyhawk (Collings Foundation)
UH-1 Huey (Collings)
AH-1 Cobra (Collings)
C-7A Caribou (Cavanaugh Flight Museum)
A-1E Skyraider (Cavanaugh)
O-2 Skymaster (Cavanaugh)
OH-6 Loach (owner unknown to me)

On Saturday, the Caribou dropped jumpers, but not Sunday due to high winds. Overall a good display. The Collings TA-4J put on a blistering solo act after the VN aircraft recovered. Always nice to see a Scooter doin' its thing!

We had the Harvard Mk.IV on static display. We were dwarfed by the B-52H parked right next to us!
