Warbird Information Exchange

Does anyone know if any of the Mosquitos used in the making of that movie are still in existence. That movie was made long before Computers were around so am just plain wondering. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for posting the Mossie pics Chris,

While I was still a schoolboy when they made 633 Squadron, I remember watching a few of the sequences being filmed for the later (semi-sequel?) movie called Mosquito Squadron in around 1967-8 when I was based at Bovingdon. Both movies were filmed at RAF Bovingdon, Hertfordshire.

All of your pics were taken at Bovingdon, which during the mid to late 60's was also home to the RAF's Southern Communications Flight which operated Ansons.

I also recall the B-25, which was used for some of the flying sequences and later on in the Battle of Britain movie.

There were at least three crash sequences in the film, and two of them seemingly used the same footage from different angles with the airframe being set on fire no less than twice. The scene used first from the side shows the Mossie fast taxiing, the gear is pulled up and it bellies in. It was partially set on fire while the crash crew rescues the crew. It was used again from a head on angle in the last crash sequence in the movie. It was set on fire again in the scene where Cliff Robertson's character's navigator pulls him from the flaming wreck. That time it really was set ablaze, with even the stuntman's Irvin flight jacket catching on fire!

That leaves a second Mossie destroyed in the third crash sequence. The one where it taxis' into the fuel bowser and explodes. I wonder which once was RS718?
