We lucked up when we had to put Brandy down, Charlie didn't do that. In fact, it surprised me a great deal, he acted as if he'd never remembered her at all. That seemed odd but at least it wasn't as heartbreaking that way.
He did, however, take to snuggling against my wife more than he used to, and still does at nights (as she goes to bed a couple of hours before I do as she has to get up much earlier than I do on week days).

This was taken, I think, about 2004 or 05. Charlie (the black and tan one) is of course way older looking now.

Well, Mark started an interesting thread here - looks like many of us love our dogs!
This is a couple of interesting dog photos. The first is a Navy P2V in for a stop at Wendover AFB - note the wise dog standing in the shade as the crew (ground crew?) tinker away.

The second here is a set of paw prints in the cement walkway where the Northfield Hospital once stood on Tinian - I can just here a SeaBee yelling at a dog as the pup ran through the wet cement - and then the love showered on the same dog a few minutes later. . .

Sorry to hear of your loss, I'm a dog owner myself so I feel and have felt your pain.

I don't have to post a photo of my dog, he is just like the great looking black Lab sitting on the Spitfire wing in the second photo. Older, nearly 10 and just diagnosed with a large growth in one of his lungs.
He doesn't know it is there so he is still as energetic, happy and good natured as ever.

Hi Mark,

Not much more I can add from what everyone has said so far. It's tough losing a part of the family - nuff said. Right now I'm at the other end of the spectrum and I hope this helps. We found Rhea at a local rescue agency in March and now she's part of the family. Here she is - and I'm not making this up - looking at her first plane.

That is such an amazing photo, thanks for posting that. Any dog lover would stop cold in their tracks, just thinking about that.
I bet the SeaBee didn't yell at that pup at all and probably laughed at the sight of the dog crossing the wet cement, probably looking for a snack or a scratch behind the ear from someone in uniform...
BTW, here's a great thread of dogs in wartime: http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/651-dogs-and-the-military/

Dear Mark,

So sorry to hear of your loss. I did give my pit, mastiff, boxer. a big hug and a bone, in yogi's honor. I don't know what I'll do when the time comes to bid Merlin goodbye. Hopefully far in the future. All the best

Sorry for your loss.
Over the last twenty five years, we've had three basseet hounds, the loss of each was heartbreaking. But the next replaces tears with laughs...it just takes time.

Each was special and the new ones never completely replace the previous, but each brings something new.

Yah! the dust has started to settle. Crazy pets can really get the best of ya sometimes so it'll still take quite a bit longer to get over this one. Good pal all around. He's missed.

Can't have just one dog though. The search is in full swing. Thx again to all of you owners of man's best friend.
