A few years ago we did a group trip to Italy. One of the highlights was driving through the area around Foggia. The entire area had reverted back to farming. We had a real hard time finding any of the bases...mind you this was before google maps and all the other fancy apps available to us today. After stopping and asking locals we located 3 bases. I had done some prior research in trying to get some then and now shots but they had very little in the way of permanent buildings. It is still very humbling to walk that area, and even today it is very remote, I can only imagine 70 years ago, just how "in the middle of nowhere" they actually were.
