Thanks for the pics, Chuck!

Precious Metal is very much flyable.

Go to the message board on http://www.warbirdaeropress.com

Look under "Sorry Ron..."

Scott took some great air-to-air shots of PM!

It was the Rolls-Royce trophy at Reno.

I think most people agree that it was purely a political move seeing that the event had been dominated by Corsair restorations since its inception three years before (Super Corsair, then Marines Dream). The sponsors were apparently concerned with being labeled as partial to one type of aircraft, so they initiated a sham to make sure their good judgement would not be brought to question! The grounds for their decision went a long way in destroying the credibility of the competition IMO. Everyone in warbird circles knows how deep John Lane dug to create as perfect a stock reproduction as possible.

Tks all for the info on Precious Metal....

Glad to see her about and flying under good care.

Just out of curiosity....Is it a serious contender for the gold ?

That is the heavy iron! As of Wednesday, I counted 6 DC-3s and 1 Albatross. I dont know if anything else has flown in since.
There was a Maserati that drove into the grass parking lot yesterday that started a fire that burned up 10 cars.
Cavanaugh has both of their Bell 47s there, TBM, P-40, and DC-3.
The night airshow is tonight. The F-22 is supposed to be displayed for the next three days.

The coolest is the AC-47 gunship restored as John Levitow's Medal of Honor Aircraft. It is owned by the American Flight Museum in Topeka, KS.

Hmmm,

I could have gone, I had a free place to stay, I decided at the last minute to bail and now.

YOU HAVE TO RUB IT IN!

Not a contender yet unless some others break. It needs a good wing recontour, and smoothing like Dago, Strega and 232 have. It also needs more power under the hood, and some system refinements. Ron is going to ferry her to Reno for the Pylon racing sminar in June, then down to "Tiger" Destifani's place in Shafter for a good safety inspection. The plane needs a little work on the airframe before it gets pushed much harder. It will be raced this year if Tiger and LD Hughes get the safety upgrades done, but it won't be Ron in the seat as he is flying Rare Bear now. The PM pilot is still up in the air.

This is the same Precious Metel that was built by my father for World Jet in 88, that year during a race the prop went flat and the pilot put it down in the lemon dry lake bed just outside the course. My dad rebuilt Precious Metel after the crash. In the first picture the other mustang is the original Precious Metel that later went down in the gulf a few years later. Here are a few pics from the past.

Beautiful photos, Chuck! Are you there all weekend, or will you be at ISM?

I saw the night show last night and will post some picture tonight after work. I plan on seeing the F-22 being flown there on Sunday.
Thanks for the comment on the pics.
