Jackson AAF, MS

Mon Jun 13, 2016 8:13 am

I am looking for a photo(s) of any of the training aircraft based at Jackson AAF during WWII. Jackson was a Basic flying training school with Vultee Valiants and 'may' have transitioned to AT-6's later in the war. Aircraft based there all carried the fuselage letter code of "J".

Thanks,

Hi,

Check : nimh-beeldbank.defensie.nl

and search (top right) for Jackson. You will get 93 hits and amongst them BT-13s and my favorite T-6.

Benno

Hello BennoT6:

Thank you so much for your recommendation to the Dutch website. You are a real hero!!!! I was totally amazed to find so many photos of "J" marked BT-13's and I believe this site is the only place on the face of the earth where these images reside. I soon made the realization that Jackson AAF was a flight training location for the Dutch Air Force during WWII.

I did further exploration of the website to find a great array of photos of the Dutch military activity on the island of Biak in New Guinea during the 1950's and 60's. Scads of photos taken there of P2V, PBY, PBM, C-47, TBM, Hunters, Sea Hawks, Tiger Moth, etc, etc. Some in color too. A great resource indeed. I never realized how strong of a military force that the Netherlands government maintained in that area.

Benno, THANK YOU once again!!!
