Something Interesting at Eglin AFB

As usual, things are always appearing here. That's one of the reasons I love living here. Other than a motor pool of what appears to be T-72/90s, SA-2s, and a TEL, there is an odd aircraft that looks like it might be a MiG or SU in the woods. Google Earth 30 30' 01.43"N 86 18' 39.33"W

I was born and raised here. Eglin AFB is where they test all Air Launched, conventional munitions. Early on, they also tested ground launched munitions as well. The place is crawling with targets. In the 60's as a kid, my friends and I would sneak onto some of the near-by ranges and crawl all over WWII aircraft and vehicles that were being used as targets. There was a V-1/Loon launch site out on Okaloosa Island with an abandoned V-1/Loon laying beside it.

That is quite possibly a Loon Launcher. Could also have been used to test the Mace or Matador.

Hmm, link works for me. Try the coordinates in the original post. 30 30' 01.43"N 86 18' 39.33"W Show what looks like a twin engine Soviet/Russian twin engine, wide spaced engines, perhaps Su-27 family aircraft or mock up.

Agree Mig-29 and Hind (and F-15, F/A-18, F-16 in the same row and A-10 alone behind that row)

That is quite possibly a Loon Launcher. Could also have been used to test the Mace or Matador.

I believe Mace and Matador used zero length launchers or trailers, with a huge booster to get them flying. V-1/Loon is the only thing I can think of that used a inclined rail that long.

Although it looks similar to a V1 launch rail, isn't it much too long. Have a look at the scale tool on Google maps. This rail looks 400 or more feet long.

The link to the JB-2 launch rail is at Aux Field 1, Wagner Field. Wagner Field was the practice field for the Doolittle Raiders. Aircraft in question is a MiG-29. Its sister ship can be seen from the main Range road that runs in front of the EOD school just to NW of this facility.
