"The event will begin with a celebration aboard the Queen Mary in Long Beach, Calif., on July 28.

In commemoration of the end of World War II, Freedom Flight of America, a fleet of more than 300 World War II warbirds, will fly coast to coast this summer.

The event will begin with a celebration aboard the Queen Mary in Long Beach, Calif., on July 28.It will end Aug. 14, the actual anniversary of the end of the war, with an aerial parade past the Statue of Liberty in New York harbor.

In between will be nine stops, where city planners will host World War II-related events, re-enactments and USO-type shows. The stops:

July 28-30, Long Beach Airport, Long Beach, Calif.; July 31-Aug. 1, Glendale Airport, Glendale, Ariz.; Aug. 1-2, Biggs Field, El Paso, Texas; Aug. 2-3, Alliance Airport, Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas; Aug. 3-4, New Century Air Center near Kansas City; Aug. 4-7, Aurora Municipal Airport, Aurora, Ill.; Aug. 7-9, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, Ohio; Aug. 9-10, Andrews Air Force Base, Washington, D.C.; Aug. 11-14, Floyd Bennett Field, Brooklyn, N.Y."

I was on the last half of the flight Aug. 4-7, Aurora Municipal Airport, Aurora, Ill.; Aug. 7-9, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, Ohio; Aug. 9-10, Andrews Air Force Base, Washington, D.C.; Aug. 11-14, Floyd Bennett Field, Brooklyn, N.Y.. The only change from the list was the last stop, it was McGuire AFB, NJ.

I have a bunch of slides from the flight I need to scan.

I don't have the registration number on that one, but it did not finish the flight. It was involved in a landing accident near the end of the event.

This AT-11 is now owned by John Hess and is based just south of Atlanta, GA. He is planning on having it at Oshkosh again this year!

That be the one, the owner of Lance Aircraft was in the back seat and took the control stick into the chest, cracking his sternum during the crash. He was at McGuire, but in a wheel chair.
