Very interesting - how do you translate those date codes and "age" listings? Seems to be dated by fiscal year/calendar month "F. Y." "C. MO."?
(just noticed - clicked over my 2000th post asking about one of my favorite planes :D )

Yes, it is Fiscal Year. I've had these for 30 years and still scratch my head trying to totally figure them out. They part of a packet of documents I obtained from the NASM, including their restoration guideline which of course never happened.

A few new (old) LIFE series photos of the Swoose. Year states 1946, location unknown.

I'd guess post war.
Could they be photos of the plane being handed to the Smithsonian at Andrews?

In the pocket of my dad's A-2, (he was a member of the 463rd BG, the "Swoose Group" according to the leather patch on the jacket) we found a newspaper clipping on the aircraft being delivered.
It had no date.

We also found a hand typed and laminated B-17 checklist.

Here is my question of the day...

Was the cabin door off of something else or scratch built for the her?

I thought it was original...with added window.

Early B-17s had that style door....or at least a different door from E-Gs.

It was in Los Angeles. The Swoose was obtained by L.A. as a war memorial.

Standard early B-17 crew access door, window included. All they did was add some aphoulstery to the inside.
