Good news!

I hope that the West Coast Mustang Operators show up. While this is good news, easy days drive for me I think I was hoping for a longer Road Trip.

Thanks for the info!

Holy smokes! That is soooo much closer than I thought it would be! I know what is on my schedule for that weekend! Heck, I can drive to Columbus in a day... I have done it before!

So much for the west coast.
I know a couple 51s off hand that would go that far.

I am shocked that they chose an eastern site once again. I think that it will limit western owners participation..........

My vote would have been for Colorado.

On the plus side, now I will get to go to the Air Force Museum for the first time! :D

Sure hope the Western birds show up

That location added to the fact that its two weeks after the AIR RACES will really limit the west coast airplanes. Even though not everyone races alot are involved with race teams or just go to that event for 4-10 days. After 10 days in RENO you just dont want to think about airplanes for a few weeks.

Me too. can anyone offer any explanation why this venue was chosen which appears to be very close to the east coast of the United States. It seems hard to imagine too many owners based on the west coast wanting to undertake such a long trek, sponsored or not.

You know, I find all the negative comments on here interesting. I don't think that Stallion needs to offer YOU an explanation. Since Stallion 51 is in the middle of the Mustang movement, don't you think they would have done a little homework to see who would be willing to come and at what price? At the press conference they mentioned that they were getting incredible support from owners/operators and believed they would reach the 100 attendee goal.

Why don't we all get behind what Stallion is trying to do instead of acting like the sky is falling....

:D Sweet. Only a seven hour drive and I have checked next year's work schedule for myself and the date falls in the middle of a week off. I've never been to Columbus before but that is going to change. :D

There are a lot more factors at work here than simply geography.

As Lauderback explained in the media conference, airspace, ramp space, and local infrastructure were significant components of the selection. A RFP was put out -- meaning, anyone at any location meeting the qualifications was eligible to apply to host the event. Apparently the Rickenbacker folks were the ones with the best facility and were the most enthusiastic to host the event and offer their cooperation.

I'm sure it would have been nice to have the event in a Central or Western US location...if the rest of the aspects were right. In this case, they weren't.

Stallion didn't go and plan this thing blindly...I'm sure owners and operators from all over were consulted in the planning process. They'd be stupid to organize such an event without consulting the people who will really make it happen (the Mustang owners/operators). Otherwise you'd have one of those "what if you held an airshow and nobody showed up" situations.

The event sounds like it's going to be fantastic to me. I was especially pleased to hear that they're going to do individual "portraits" of all the attending aircraft and legends/aces. It'll also be cool to see Heritage Flight there as well as the Horsemen aerobatic routine.
