I know the question was originally about 100LL but when the Ga boys started talking about their FBO smiling about moving the fleet I figured I would put the problem in perspective.

F-4 takes between 1500 and 2000 gal per flight JP-8 @ 3.40 per gal

It makes the TA-4 look like an economy car !

100LL is 3.95 per gal so we do get a break of sorts.

Is there anywhere in the world you can get gas / petrol for cars or piston-engined aircraft cheaper than the USA?

Raven we're back to perception and perspective again. We've been fortunate for so long with low fuel prices that we haven't built up a tolerance to high fuel prices. UK and Europe were where we are now, 20 years ago.

We gripe about the fuel prices but I paid 7.50 for a beer and 3.50 for a bottled water at Minute Maid Ball Park a week ago. I guess the big difference is that we want the beer and coke but we NEED the fuel and can't not buy it.

I can remember not so long ago ( about 1988 ) that we thought .55 per gallon for 89 octane car gas was high. If I go back a little further ( about 1968-69 ) I can remember seeing Shamrock (now Valero) regular for 19.9 cents per gallon. Of course a Mustang could be had for about 6-10 grand too and in when I worked in the coop program in college managing a sporting goods dept. I was one of the highest paid at $2.75 per hour !

A friend's just come back from a holiday in Egypt. After consulting the calculator, again, he reckons fuel there is about $0.63 per US gallon.

I'm not sure you're right about 20 years ago, I suspect it's nearer 30.
30 years ago I had a 3.4 Jaguar Mk2 and for whatever reason one occasion has stuck in my mind. At that time, given todays exchange rate, I paid the equivalent of $.90 per US gallon.

Currently $4.25/gallon at KDAW (Rochester, NH)

$3.80 in Wendover - but we do give warbirds a discount - call ahead !

With the current rate of increase $5 a gallon is just around the corner We have seen a .50 increase over the past few weeks.

I read that avgas in Mexico is considerably cheaper than here in the US. I've not flown down there so can't confirm

I think that the tax on car gas is around .40 per gal. I forget what it is for AVgas.

I'll bet that the tax in Mexico is much cheaper, the govt. also owns and runs PEMEX. I don't know how much profit magin they are going for.

What are they doing putting gold flakes in this stuff?

Two phases... "Market Forces" and "Peak Oil". Get ready for it, the price of gas is going higher.

We have talked on WIX in recent years what the biggest threats to warbirds operations will be. Is it spares availability? Is it the high costs of insurance? Or does the ultimate demise of warbird operations lay in the rising cost of oil?

Sorry about the doom and gloom.
