Warbird Information Exchange

That C-119 is a puzzle. I was trying to remember the story and couldn't quite pull it out of my memory. Something like- there was a guy named Dave Brady (?) that owned and started ASA commuter airlines and he had a warbird collection in Georgia. He had a C-119 , a A-26 and a T-37. I think the C-119 was at the opening ceremonies of the new runway 20L /02R at Nashville BNA in 1987. Anyway he was killed shortly after that going to an airshow. He was in the T-37 and while making a photo pass of the A-26 they clipped the Invader's right wing. Both occupants of the T-37 were killed and the Invader made an emergency landing somewhere, maybe near Chattanooga.
I remember the plane maybe being called the Georgia Box, it couldnt have been on the airshow season more than a year or two, and then disappeared. Possibly the only C-119 ever on the airshow circuit. Can anyone confirm or clarify my memmory?

One time a local TV station interviewed a bunch of operators at a show, and this plane was one of them. The station mailed me a copy of the program, so I’ll see if I can find it this evening.

Hawkins & Powers flew their C82A N97015 to Oshkosh at least twice that I remember '97 & '98, winning "Most Rare Transport" from the EAA WOA judges. It appeared in excellent condition at the time.

That is the same C-119 that was on the show circut in 1989. If I ever get to scanning some slides, I'll scan a few from the 1989 Tico Show. It was a huge hit. They arrived at the show with two cars and a huge charcol grill stuffed in the back! Mike Savage's Osprey Book about the Valient Air Command has several photos of it at the same show. I was wondering where it went to.

Great photos! Last year in May I took a two-week road trip with my dad and my youngest brother out to Seattle so I could attend the last reunion of the P-47 Thunderbolt Pilots Association. As my family lives in Iowa, I drove down from Oshkosh to pick them up, then we headed straight over to the SAC Museum outside Omaha. From there it was up to South Dakota where we stayed the night in Deadwood (great series on HBO btw). From there we made a quick stop at the Devil's Tower before heading over to Cody to visit the Buffalo Bill Museum on our way towards Seattle.

I had never heard of Hawkins and Powers (shame on me I know), so when we came out of Greybull driving up that big hill, I see a rest stop sign and decide to pull in. You get to the top of the hill and there it is - radial engines everywhere! There was a sign posted that the museum had just opened that day, but it was about 5:30pm when we got there and there was no one in sight. I walked the entire perimeter fence snapping pictures left and right. It was like stumbling onto an aviation treasure!

That made my day! The rest of the trip was just as good, as we toured Seattle, including the Museum of Flight and the Paul Allen Collection, I attended the P-47 reunion, and then we drove down to Tillamook and Evergreen before heading back east. My dad and brother were sick of seeing aviation museums, but I had a hell of time. Anywho, just my $0.02 after seeing those pics.
