Anybody know where the F-4 Phantoms that flew over Texas Motor Speedway today prior to the scheduled start of the Race were from?

QF-4s from the USAF at Elgin AFB, Florida. I believe this is one of their last appearances unless the USAF decides to try and delay their "retirement" again. Same pair that have been on tour all year at airshows.

A welcome surprise, and a bright spot in an otherwise gloomy day as the race was rained out (at least, until late that night).
Stang, Jr. said they were the best part of the day.

Probably the same pair that was at the Reno races. They told us there it was probably the last time we would see them.

Not Eglin, there are none here. Probably from Holloman AFB where the last flying ones were.

If they had a tail code of "HL", they were more probably from Holloman AFB.

"TD" tail code, old Tyndall AFB birds, now located at Holloman AFB. A nice surprise to see them do the flyover!

I know it wouldn't be cheap but I'll never understand why our Air Force can't allocate some funds to maintain a memorial flight like the RAF does.
A-1, F-105, and F-4 VN Memorial Flight would rock!

That list should also include the O-2, A-37, and F-100.

You could cover WW2, Korea and VN eras with the A-26: gotta be some value in that!
