IIRC the Smithsonian uses a special microcristalline wax on the airplanes that seals the metal from the atmosphere. I highly recommend Robert Mikesh's book "Restoring Museum Aircraft."
You may also contact the Udvar Hazy team directly if a good internet search doesn't turn anything up.

What about the bare metal (or just alodined) parts, same stuff or use something else?
