Thanks so much for the pix pop2. I'm amazed at all the "lightning" holes in the Kate!! :shock: , I know they did that in the Zero. Did all Japanese
aircraft employ this technique? I see too that their not just holes drilled but flanged which adds strength also. Just amazing.
Any more from the museum?

The" lightening holes" that Naval Aviators installed thru Japanese aircraft weren't of the flanged type. The dias. were usually either or both .5 in. or 20mm.

A couple quick questions: Is the B-17E's belly turret on display, and what are the functions of the three long levers in the lower control quadrant of the Kate?

Chris, those three long levers are for the manual bomb release (presumably one would be used to release the torpedo)

Tom - I don't know if the tower is open (I should have asked!) :cry:

Here is a diagram of the cockpit for the Kate, in case anyone can translate the call outs
