Mike Dillon

Just got my copy of Blue Press and discovered with dismay that Mike Dillon went west on Nov. 7th 2016. RIP sir, what a legacy!

I'll never forget that red P-40.

Man, that bums me out. I get the chance to talk to Mike a number of times when I was associated with Fox51 Ltd.

Blue skies Mike, you now have endless fuel and ammo.

Over the years I have bought a number of his reloading presses and countless other products. Still have got my original 550B. If I had a dollar for every round I have reloaded on Dillon gear I could easily buy a real warbird (dreams). Mike Dillon's products are/were superb. The man himself always came across as being totally of the Right Stuff - and unashamedly non-PC into the bargain. Lovely guy.

I am just having a cold beer while watching my copy of Machine-Gun Magic on VHS (yet again).

Blue Skies Mike (and NEVER de-cap live primers!).

My favorite Dillon video. Love the MD-500 in the video.

Not just a red P-40, but a VERY RED P-40. A truly brilliant man. What a loss.
I've been clearing out my storages recently and am hoping to run across a few magazines featuring that P-40N. I'm thinking they would be "Air Progress" (which he wrote some articles for later) and "Flying". I remember the issues and the color spreads of that bird(of which some were sacrificed to be stapled to the "Wall of WOW". I'm surprised that the Dillon Precision site, in all of their ample remembrances of Mr. Dillon, didn't have one dedicated to that bird. They redeemed themselves a bit with the February cover of the "Blue Press" bearing a photo of a very young Mike Dillon in front of her. For those who haven't seen it, link here to a pdf of that issue...

For what it's worth, the current issue of Warbirds International (March 2017) is reprinting the first of three articles that were originally in Air Progress--the series on restoring the red P-50, by Mike Dillon. They infer that they (W.Int'l) consider those articles one of the origins of the warbird movement. They plan to follow up with the rest of the articles in subsequent issues. Fun reading!

I was looking for the photos before the "de rigueur P-40 bling sharksmouth" and CAF adds...Haven't found one of those on the web, or my old mags...yet. Glad to hear "Warbirds Intl." will rerun the articles.
