Here's some info for everyone in the North Carolina Area. a friend of mine sent me the following e-mail:
I'm emailing you today with some neat pics and great news out of Charlotte, NC. A rather large stork delivered to us a very pretty baby a few days ago. F-14D s/n 161166 of VF-213 'Black Lions', is now very happily a part of our museum collection here in the great state of North By-God Carolina. This Tomcat was of the very last F-14s in US Navy service - having just returned from sea duty about one month ago. You can still smell the salt water about her. VF-213's CO and OPSO flew the Tomcat in on the short flight from NAS Oceana. Why them and not some junior officers? Well, because they could, I guess - after all, they're the bosses! They did a welcome home / farewell pass over KCLT, shot a touch & go on runway 18L-36R, lit the cans, and came around again to squeak the mains down for the very last time ... why can't cool planes (and your favorite pet cats and dogs) live on forever? And why do your kids have to grow up?

I got the two shots here of 161166 off of
www.airliners.net, where else? The first shot is of 161166 arriving home at NAS Oceana back in March '06, direct from the Teddy Roosevelt. The second shot is one of those familiar great shots of the F-14 - a lady in waiting - kind of like Angelina Jolie in a slinky evening dress - with a stiletto dagger in her hand, behind her back - don't mess, man!
A new arrival for the Carolina Aviation Museum! I thought some may find it interesting!
