This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Most WIXers have probably already seen the videos, but it behooves us to post multiple kudos to all the wild-eyed Southern boys responsible for getting this Kingcobra airborne.
https://www.facebook.com/CAFDixieWing/p ... =3&theaterThe Dixie Wing has already indicated that P-51 "Red Nose" will be coming north for Oshkosh. Here's hoping they send some more of their fleet this direction come July.
I wonder if they like beer...

It's been 24 hours since it's become airworthy, can we get the registry updated for 42-68941???

Send me some new pics and I'll see what I can do on Thursday.

Just fantastic news! Congratulations to the Dixie group and best wishes for safe and reliable operation of the old girl. The CAF can put up a pretty impressive "cobra flight" at this point. Keep 'em flying!

They've done a great job. I remember seeing it as a forlorn project in St. Louis. It didn't have a friend, was missing parts and looked hopeless and that was before the flood.
The P-63 , as well as their recently flown T-34, is going to be very appealing to the donors/members that have thousands of flight hours, and money, but don't have a lot of tailwheel time or don't like flying tailwheel.
Paint schemes. My votes are: 1) postwar NACA/Muroc Dry Lake . Silver with yellow band on the tail. There's a few of those guys alive(Col. Bud Anderson) that worked for NASA in the early years. (Good luck finding WW II P-63 pilots to attend fundraising events.) 2) The red pin ball paint scheme as it hasn't been done yet, would look great and be an attention getter. 3) Anything they want will look great, it's a beautiful aircraft.

I think it was decided that the P-63F would be getting the "Pin Ball" scheme. In my opinion it would be more appropriate for the Dixie wing airplane and the NACA scheme you suggested would look right at home on the F model. Just my .02 cents of course!

Agreed. Although I don't know what model they used at NACA. Isn't the P-63F a prototype ? Anyway, when John Sandberg had his P-63 "What Price Speed?" at Oshkosh it was painted a nice orange. It always had a crowd around it. The pin-ball red will really draw attention. Can't wait to see it.
P.S. Just checked it's history on the warbird registry. Apparently this aircraft was retained by Bell Aircraft as a test aircraft and later transferred to NACA in California as a test aircraft. So maybe they can include that in it's written bio.

I thought Jacks P-63 was the "Tipsy Miss"?

When J.R.Sandberg owned the P-63, he named it "Tipsy Miss' because it raced on alcohol fuel.
When it was sold to Mike Smith, he changed the name to "What Price Speed".

I went down to Falcon Field (KFFC) today to check out the P-63.
Fortunately/Unfortunately the first flight or flights were so trouble free they have already sent it out for paint, so I had to look at the P-51 (with new engine going in and all of the panels pulled), the Dauntless, and the rest of the Wing's fleet.

Paint job being donated by Delta Air Lines. It's at the Delta Tech Ops now, saw it yesterday.

I've never seen a Delta P-63 before, I'm excited!

I am excited to see the P-63 is scheduled to attend the WWII weekend in Reading PA. Looking forward to seeing a real live P-63. I've only seen the one at the NMUSAF before.
