Yes, Leon took the photo but couldn't get closer to the plane. Another photo of it showed up in the November 1975 issue of Air Classics, showing it behind a tall chain link fence. IIRC, there was a photo about a year afterward showing a Cougar upside down in a large dumpster and I think it was that one.

And speaking of AC, and warbirds in parks, how about this:

Faded, yet hardly a scratch on it - but BuNo 126417 (which is an F2H-3, not -4) doesn't seem to be on any survivor lists.

I did a little checking in my notes and found some info on High School birds via Air Classics Warbird Report...

An F-86 was located at Vista Del Mar Union School, Gaviota California. Photos appear in Air Classics Warbird Reports in Vol.18 No.7, Vol. 21 No.12, and Vol.22-8 - all with a photo. The last volume shows the Sabre dis-assembled on way to McClelland AFB...

F-84F at Indian Springs Nevada is pictured being used as the High School Mascot - not sure bird was actually located at school grounds...

A-7A is located at the Alliance Ohio High School and is photo'd on the cover of Michael Blaugher's Guide To 900 Aircraft Museums, 21st edition...

T-33A at Boys Town Nebraska - don't know any further info...

AD-5 pictured at Pawtucket Boys Club Rhode Island, Warbird Report AC Vol. 9 No.7....

I remember playing on that Banshee. I don't remember it having a canopy, because I sat in the cockpit and adjusted the rudder pedal position. I always wondered what happened to it.

One more to add...

T-33 serial 29184 was in process of being scrapped at the North Eaton Ohio School (grades 1-12) in an Elyria Chronicle Ohio newspaper photo June 11, 1971. Remains were sent directly to smelter.

Well, I've been doing some research on this - by talking with my father who graduated from Grant Union HS.

Grant Union HS is located just off the property of then McClellan AFB and they taught aircraft repair at the school. While my father graduated in '55, he had four older brothers that went to Grant before him. He doesn't remember the P-38 specifically but he remembers at one time there was a "football field size lot full of different aircraft".
When my father was attending there was four aircraft in a smaller lot; a T-6, P-51, a twin he thinks was a Beechcraft -18 and another plane that he doesn't remember.

I also got to see the 1952 yearbook.
There isn't any airplane pictures but there is mention of the classes and a picture of some students working on an uncovered fabric aileron.
