Re: Yanks Air Museum (and others) suing to stop the POF airs

Has a hashtag been set up yet for people wishing to promote awareness and support Planes of Fame across social media? If not, may I propose #letusflypof, since Planes of Fame has established the email letusfly@planesoffame.org as its contact point for this?

I will be posting at least one photo per day from old POF airshows on my instagram account, @aircraftinfocus, using the #letusflypof tag with a comment supporting POF and encourage others to do the same, until this dispute is satisfactorily resolved.

No need to bother with this anymore for now. (link below) If anyone else is doing any of this and you want to make a statement / point / protest / what-have-you ... and be heard by the Yank-ees, perhaps becoming a rebel may just do the trick. I've been to more POF shows than I care to admit. I plan to make it again this year. It'll happen.

+ noise helps, - $$$ hurts.

The hashtag they're using is just #letusfly

I'm doing the same, find me on Instagram @connorm415photo. I'm also offering up this photo to anyone who wants to use it as their cover photo or share it to show support for Planes of Fame. Just send me your email address.

This whole situation sucks, but does anyone else get the feeling that it was kind of inevitable?

We have two large aviation museums at the same airport vying for the same audience. It seems like this going to come to a head at some point. The whole Yanks wanting to move to Greenfield that was mentioned early in the thread suggests to me that they've wanted a location all to themselves for some time now. And don't forget that PoF has its own satellite campus at Valle Airport as well. I think the takeaway is that Chino was just "not big enough for the both of them". I mean look at a satellite view of their storage areas. They can't be any more cramped.

Momentum is starting to pick up and this thing is getting a lot of exposure, including nationally:

1) Live "call in" and discussion on Warbird radio with an aviation lawyer and the President of ICAS. The lawsuit discussion starts at 23:50. You can either stream the rebroadcast or download it for listening later:

2) Local, Los Angeles t.v. news station about the lawsuit:

3) On-line petition exceeds 10,000 signatures and still growing:

I'm going to say no, not inevitable.

Yes, space is tight on the field, although it wasn't 20 years ago, before they built all those hangars to the east. But the museums complement, they don't vy. I don't think many visitors to the field run out of time or money after visiting just one museum and can't afford to see the other. If they become aware of both, they'll go see both. Who doesn't want to see 5 Mustangs, 3 P-47s and 2 P-38s in one afternoon? Of course, the two museums don't cross-promote -- you don't see pamphlets for one in the lobby of the other. You don't see combo ticket deals. Right there, you get the feeling that some personal issues have always been in play. I have certainly heard staff of Yanks bad-mouth POF over the years, though not so much recently. It's like when you have two friends who have so much in common that they should totally get along, but they seem to hate each other over the most trivial of differences.

Duxford should be the model. They have a major flying museum, a major static museum, and several vintage aircraft related businesses on the field. Can you imagine IWM complaining that the airshows cause it cost and inconvenience? Yes you can! It's always easy to imagine people being jerks! But instead, they entered into a mutually beneficial partnership and made the airfield more of a destination that it could have been with either tenant alone.

Totally agree. Through this whole fiasco I thought Chino to be the Duxford of the West Coast. They sure don't operate like Duxford though.

Wow, agree with others that if Yanks can't reap anything out of the biggest airshow in the west they are indeed going about it all wrong. Sour grapes indeed. I do recognize that the days of being a sleepy, inexpensive, airstrip in the middle of the cow pastures has long past (although you can still smell the cows!). While they may not always cooperate, there is a symbiotic relationship there of attracting visitors. I have been to both and enjoy both, but as PoF is more alive it is worth a stop every time, as you never know what may be going on, or what may start up the day you are there. Hope for a smart decision.

Maybe after this dispute is resolved, POF and Yanks and maybe even the FBOs and Allied Fighters (which doesn't seem to participate in Chino shows any more -- another deteriorated relationship?) should get together and hire a marketer/mediator to help promote the Chino airport warbird tourism synergies for the benefit of all. It would be a tough and at times thankless job, but a labor of love for someone.
