Boy, these Warbirds just start to finally get that realistic faded in-service patina and some nut comes along and ruins 'em! :axe:

Actually...That's pretty cool of the Megiaurs folks, that was about the 4th time they've visited Witchcraft. They also threw a polish party on Fuddy Duddy quite a few years back...Shiney!

I agree a bit of patina/wear is nice, but the two aircraft aren't exactly stock in appearance, and their main purpose these days is to look good to the general public, so no harm-no foul. This waxing probably added a few years to the lifespan of the current paint, so Collings must be happy.

I wonder what the dollar value of the products used is?
I've used Meguires products on my classic cars (and moderns) for years, it isn't cheap.

Back in the 90s, I had their plastic window polish for my Miata and used it to take a scratch out of the Bell 47 bubble.

When I was out on the road for the two years with the crew, the "refresh" certainly helped, but, like anything, faded back after 2 months or so. It's the price you pay when they are always out in the sun and elements for months on end.

For some reason, the nacelles and wing behind the B-25 engines always looked shiny and fresh... hmmm, wonder why!

Was the 909 able to be done as well or does her lighter paint scheme not shine up that well?

This is purely assumption on my part but I would think with "909" due for major overhaul soon there wasn't much point.

I took this shot at PWK three years ago; the paint was pretty thin already in some areas:

Has it been touched up since then?

I don't think so. I took this in the fall when I flew on her. I think they're waiting until after whatever deep maintenance is planned in the next couple years.
