Hey,
While touring the NASM Udvar-Hazy center last Wed. we were told the story of the next aircraft to be brought out from the Garber Facility.

The Museums P-61 will be brought out to Dulles from Alexandria on Tuesday night at midnight, up route 495 and into IAD.

Have Fun!

Sounds like a trip up Rte. 9E to Leesburg, the Greenway to Rte. 28, 28S about 4 miles to Udvar-Hazy. Takes about 45 mins.

Mudge the anxious :supz: :supz:

Here are a few pictures from a friend of mine who works as a volunteer with NASM. He said to remind everyone that this is still configured as a NACA test platform, so little of the military gear is still there... and won't be put back on the plane for the near future. The original paint will still be there as well.

Wish I could, in fact just tried, but the software has advanced further than the mods have and the latest resize mod I can find doesn't work (I just tried) so we will just have to live with it for now I guess :?

I would love to see this widow repainted into war time markings. But I will not argue with the museum. I am just glad it is going to be out on display at this point!

I still havent gotten to Udvar Hazy yet :( (I am in NJ!) Ive been saying I was going to get their since it has opened, grrrrr. :x

I would love to see the DO335, the 219, the Arado, Lysander, the Enola Gay...

Brilliant aircraft this one, surely it will be displayed in a striking WW2 pacific scheme? ie. Black with spectacular nose-art?

nope, the widow will be painted in post ww 2 nasa markings, when the type was used by them up to 1956 for aeronautical experiments. as stated in the thread, i'd prefer a ww 2 paint scheme too, but we should be happy that 1 is preserved at all. anybody know of what is with the widow sitting sitting on mt. cyclops in new guinea?? & also heard about another crashed widow in a remote chinese province, what's the scoop on that 1 too?? i recall seeing a pic of a widow on an old wix thread of a widow that was semi respectably restored & on outdoor display in china.

Tom, are you saying that there is a second Widow on Cyclops ? Mid Atlantic's example came off of the mountain there, that is the only one I know of.

I am pretty sure the MAAM's Widow IS the one that was on Mt. Cyclops. It is under restoration and making steady progress towards flying. Ill see it in June at the WW2 weekend.
