Canutillo, TX

Thu Aug 17, 2017 12:23 am

Yesterday, I saw an airplane that I am sure, has been well documented. I have always driven that stretch of I-10 during the night, and failed to see the airplane.

It is located in Canutillo, TX at an antiques store, the "Whoopee Bowl Antique Mall"

The quality of the photos is poor, due to having used my cell phone to shoot them...

Looks straight out of Davis-Monthan. I Googled that "NFO Trainer" phrase and found a few photos from D-M; odd that this one doesn't have a base code or last four of the BuNo on the verticals.

Ditto that! The clock tower with the eagle is pretty awesome, and of course, the Beech. There's enough goodies there to drive a Homeowners Association to fits.

Last time I drove that route in 2003, I missed the Beech as well, it was about 9pm. Ran into a buttload of 'em in Quartzite, Arizona in the daylight tho, as well as some HUP's. I did a punch list on a McMansion in El Paso in the early 90's but never made it that far around the pass exploring...there was a decent '68 AMX project car down in town in front of a little house back then tho. Loved El Paso Saddle and Blanket...

There is lettering above the door, that says NFO Trainer.
Also, on the right side, there is VT-1 but other than that...

I am also looking for a location in El Paso, a house with a backyard with some airplanes, amongst them at least one C-45...

Tulio,

The C-45/SNBs are (were) in Fabens, Texas about 25 miles,or so east of El Paso. I do not believe they are still there, but if I have time this weekend I will drive over and check them out.

I have one, just like the one pictured, just a darker shade of green. Bought it from Al Knoch Corvette out of Texas, they also sell those giant lawn ornaments you can see in the shot there. :D One of the best investments I ever made...

I'd love to have a C-45 in the yard too.

Edit, well it looks like thats the place! I bought my Dino at a Corvette show in Carlisle PA.

Thank you, CB!

Tulio,

Unfortunately they (the twin Beeches) are gone. I had heard they had been "disposed of" when the property changed hands and today I drove to Fabens and checked, sure enough gone.

Fabens was an interesting place when I was much younger. There were a bunch of P-40 parts. Some P-39 parts and two Buchons that spent a couple of summers there. There was also an Avro Anson that has also since disappeared. I have heard the Anson went to Canada.

Thanks, CB.

Will continue to look for wrecks and abandoned airplanes in the area.

Good morning, I can shed some light on the Twin Beech's (c-45's) in the El Paso and Fabins area when I have a little more time, I live south of Houston at Wolfe Airpark and am currently dealing with the flood issues. I lived in El Paso for many years and the Twin Beech's and the airplane storage area at Fabins belonged to my Uncle, Mr. Nolan Carter a WWII Navy Vet and active pilot and mech until his passing 8 years ago.
I have a nice collection of photos of the storage area in Fabins and his aircraft at ELP airport years ago including the C-45's, however I am a Pilot not computer guy thus I have no idea how to post the pictures here...lol. When I have a little time I will tell you the story and adventures of moving those planes 25 years ago.
