I just left Ellington and its high and dry. There is some standing water on the ramp, but the hangars, LSFM, Collings etc.. are all dry. Can't get to Clover due to flooding, but from the pictures I've seen its still dry also.

Stay safe folks.
I can't even imagine.

Thoughts and prayers your way.
Good to see a bit of humour hanging on. That's a must.

Kurt,

I have no idea, and I have no news!

My neighbors are not answering telephones or returning text messages.

I understand that some of the hangars -likely mine, too-have taken water.

But I am 800 or so miles away and a couple of buddies who could go and check for me, are stranded in Houston due to the high water on the roads and everywhere else.

Saludos,

Tulio

Ah, you're still in El Paso then. I wish I were in El Paso. Go to a grocery store and get milk & eggs for me, wouldya? :D

Well, it's finally over. Rain mostly quit late yesterday afternoon, and a fine cool dry northerly breeze has set in that feels like the first day of fall. I'm sure we're in for a return to reality soon, but this is nice, real nice. The quiet really takes a bit of getting used to with no nonstop storm after so many days and nights.

Won't go get 'em for you, but I know where to get 'em. Fresh off the truck! If your roads are clear enough to get you to Fairmont/Red Bluff PM me if needed!

PS, if you can hold on till tomorrow, I know of at least one HEB which will have full stock milk by 9am in the morning in the same area. I talked to a coffee klatch of managers that said their drivers were caught up in the floods and they had no way to get the product from the warehouse to the stores able to be open. HEB flew drivers from San Antonio by helicopter to Houston to begin deliveries later today.

Glad yer OK Tulio!

It's pleasant to report that gas stations came back on line earlier today, and a couple grocery stores opened this afternoon. I believe I'll live after all. I didn't run out of victuals, just starting to get a little concerned. Kinda interesting feeling to face a real possibility of shortages, boy are we ever spoiled rotten in this wonderful land of plenty!

Total rainfall amounts vary from location to location, of course, but it's accurate to say on average we got 4 feet of rain over the weekend.

Also nice to report all this sh** it running off very quickly. Dickinson is mostly de-flooded already. The stories told by the now-ubiquitous mounds of sopping flooring and drywall in driveways are heart rending, however.

Far-reaching effect of the Houston area flooding: gasoline prices here in the D/FW area have shot up 25 to 40 cents a gallon in the last 2 days, and some stations have run out of gasoline and/or diesel.

The weather guy in Salt Lake City said that based on reports and flooding depths he figured that 8 trillion gallons of water fell from the sky during the span of the storm

Glad everyone seems to be doing well!

Had a bit of a tour around. Even in the small areas we covered the scope of this thing is absolutely mind blowing, just beyond words. I couldn't even begin to describe what I've now seen, and don't have the heart to try or even want to think about it too much. All I can say is that perhaps the TV news isn't over-blowing it.

A pal of mine at JSC said that Ellington didn't get hit nearly as bad as other nearby areas, nor did the Johnson Center grounds for the most part (though many access roads were under water). They decided to maintain control over the ISS from Johnson, even though Marshall at Huntsville has the capability to be a full Mission Control for the ISS if need be.
I was told that everything at Ellington that could fly, was flown out when possible in advance of the storm. I assume the T-38s and WB-57s were flown somewhere.
I also assume that Lone Star wasn't hit all that hard, for the same reasons:

Still, the storm killed their grand opening plans for this weekend. Better that than flooding the place out!

Take care of yourself and your loved ones Kurt.
I can't even imagine.
It very often is the most trying times like this that we discover what our fellow people are made of.
Look out for each other and persevere.
