It's been done already - one of the captured German pilots (later killed by his fellow prisoners) in "The McKenzie Break". No flying I can recall but a pretty good "escape from the P.O.W. camp" movie.

Anything but Brokeback Squadron :D But I would like to see this happen, there is an Aviation Lawyer who has written a script and a book about the AVG Flying Tigers. He also owns a Kate replica. http://www.flyingtigersfilm.com/ Anyone familiar with him?

Hi:

I've just joined this forum and found this interesting thread. There has already been a remake of "12 O'Clock High." It was that Rock Hudson movie with the B-52s. If I remember correctly, it was called "A Gathring of Eagles."

Now a remake of 12 O'Clock High as a WW2 film again. I would like that as well. :D

Got to vote for Whip also.

I wonder if the new Tuskegee movie will have the Me 262's in it? They were one of the first to shoot one down and that would be interesting and possible to shoot now with the replica flying.

I'd like to see something that starts with a young pilot in training.
Something like the beginning of "Dark Blue World".
See how they lived back in those days. What the training was like, first solo and such.
The tension of the selection for fighter pilots. The training on the P-39 / P-40 or whatever, having fun low on the deck.
And after that action over Europe, dogfights, strafing etc...
How they'd hangout with each other.
The good and the bad about those days.
All without special effects offcource.
Maybe a bit like the "Baa Baa Black Sheep" series.
It should also have lots of girls.

Scott--

You refer to "the new Tuskegee film" as though this on-again/off-again project might be back on again. Is Lucasfilm (or another studio) pursuing the making of a movie about the 332nd? 'Twould be way cool...

A re-shoot of the classic "Twelve O'clock High" has been rumored for the past ten + years. And, it stands to reason that, in La La Land, the majority of the people there have no imagination, because they can only redo something instead of coming up with something new.

Even though that movie is one of my favorites, if you haven't read the actual book, you don't know the whole story. The movie left out a considerable amount from the book and changed a few things that weren't part of the story.

As an example - The character Bishop was killed in the movie but was a P.O.W. in the book.

There were a lot of other differences between the two, too many to get into here, and, suffice it to say, there were a lot of loose ends that were never tied up. Until now!

I have written a story, to be published sometime soon, that attempts to tie those loose strings and to add a lot more to the story. The book is titled "General Savage" and starts in the early 1950s, but takes the General back, to finish the war, and gets him involved in events that actually took place at that time (Poltava).

He's brought back to the 50s and ends up in the Korean War, beyond that I don't wish to tell here.

I sent a copy of my manuscript to two people, a few years ago. One of them went to Gregory Peck, the other went to Steven Speilberg.

I sent the one to Mr. Peck so that he would know what I had happen to his character. The story was received by him and I have a nice letter from him telling me that he enjoyed knowing the continuing story.

The second was received by the Speilberg office, the envelope was sliced opened, a form letter was thrown in and sent back to me. The envelope wasn't even resealed. I sent a scathing letter back to him (not expecting anything to come of it), but received a phone call from one of his people (female) apologizing for what had happened.

She told me that they received hundreds of stories every week, especially since "Saving Private Ryan" and that they have to simply send them back. She said that she was sorry about how mine was returned and I told her that I wasn't unfamiliar with how the movie thing works and that I wasn't trying to sell a story. I told her that I was sure that he (Speilberg) was a fan of "Twelve O'clock High", and that he might like to know some more of the story, in other words one fan of the story to another. However, she said that there wasn't anything that she could do, so I thanked her for the call and that was the end of it.

So, if you have a story to tell, don't count on anyone in Hollywood listening to you.

Yea Hollywierd wouldn't know a good script if you hit them upside the head with it, and they butcher remakes.

Dear Nige,

I don't know you, and you don't know me; however,...

a) This is the Warbird Information Exchange
b) This thread is about possible topics for aviation movies

Your post is completely lacking substance on either a) or b). Kindly voice your opinions concerning politics and the history of American foreign diplomacy on a board which is dedicated to such.

Kindest regards,

Dan

Dan you are right. I apologise to anyone I may have irritated. I will try to stick to Warbirds and directly related topics in future.
I was just trying to show how in part the U.S.A.'s past has influenced so many people around the world to fight for independance and a better future.

Anyway I will stay on topic in future.

All the best
Nige
Enjoying the summer sun and off to RAF Cosford shortly to get some nice shots of various engines, rockets and aircraft on display there.

Just to clarify. Bong is the TOP American ACE of all time. Followed by Tom McGuire. Both flew 38's and what about shooting down Yamamoto as a side note in the movie

I agree with Dan when he said . . .

"Kindly voice your opinions concerning politics and the history of American foreign diplomacy on a board which is dedicated to such."

. . . but since the subject was brought up, I'd like to add something for the benefit of those persons that weren't around at the time of Viet Nam, and those persons in other countries that seem to think that everything that is wrong in the world is the fault of the United States.

First off - Viet Nam - Have you ever heard of S.E.A.T.O., the South East Asian Treaty Organization. Like N.A.T.O., it obligates the U.S., and other nations, to help defend any signer of that treaty against any and all aggressors. But, of course, that's never taken into consideration when someone thinks they're being real smart in attacking the U.S. about Viet Nam. Also, the American military didn't faulter or lose the conflict in that country, the corrupt and cowardly politicians in this country and Viet Nam lost it. And, a few of those same politicians from this country, along with a lot of new ones, are still in office, just as corrupt and just as cowardly as they were back then. And the worse part is that they're trying to do the same thing again.

They live and run their lives in fear of political polls, and they don't care about this country at all. They only care about the power they've created for themselves. I'm always embarrassed when I think that Massachusetts is part of the U.S. and keeps electing that fat a**, s.o.b., Kennedy and his family.

And another thing, don't apply this Politically Correct B*** S*** of today to the way things were back in the 1940s. If people back then did the things these P.C. a** holes do today, we'd be speaking German as our primary language.

The United States taxpayers are still owed millions upon millions of dollars from countries that we've helped, even from the World War Two period. But we'll never get it back because of our bleeding heart liberals in government that think WE should be under the control of the U.N., and the American taxpayers should be responsible for taking care of all the indigents in the world.

All wars are he**, and they'll never be anything but he**. But some have to be fought and they NEVER go as planned.

So, to all of those self-edifying people that think it's so cool and righteous to demean the U.S.A., even those in this country, KISS MY A** and I'll see you in HE**.

Have a nice day. :D
