Anyone Heard From Mark Allen M?

Has anyone heard from Mark Mansfield? I thought he lived in the area of all of the fires in California.

Hey Mac, all good in my area (for now anyway) I just returned from a trip abroad and it's certainly a tragic mess up North. I live in the Santa Barbara area that's South Central California. The terrible stuff is up in Northern California. We did have a few fires locally here in July that were not good, but at least we didn't suffer the amount of tragic loses that is now happening.

Curious about the Schellville Airport, there many vintage types based there.

I'm curious about what airbase the fire bombers are operating from?

Some of he usual airbases are inside the fire zone now.

Most and maybe all of the northern California effort against the fires near Oroville and Santa Rosa was coming out of McClellan (KMCC) at Sacramento. Constant stream of tankers in and out over the last ten days.

Reporting in from ground zero in Santa Rosa. The Santa Rosa airport is currently a beehive of activity. We have two C-130's, at least 6 Cal Fire S-2's, a DC-7 and some other assorted tankers rotating in for retardant. They have flown continuously as long as there is daylight and sufficient visibility. The larger 747 and DC-10 are tanking out of McClellan. Ukiah also supports the smaller tankers.

At least 15 members of our local airport community have lost their homes, most with little or no warning or opportunity to pack anything. The airport is in a good spot and safe. Schellville is OK. No aircraft have been threatened. Everything has been turned upside down for us and it will be quite awhile before we resume some sort of normalcy. Thanks for all of your concerns.

I need to give a shout-out to all of the first responders, police and fire fighters from nine different states and all over California who came here to help us. We would be in even worse shape if not for their kindness. Our local community is doing all we can to accommodate them and support each other through all this. The devastation has to b seen to be believed.

Thanks for that reply. I've been hoping both the Santa Rosa airport and Schellville were OK. I figured the tanker base would be incredibly busy if the airport survived, and hoped that being west of the city would have saved it (so far at least). I have at least one friend in Santa Rosa whose home is gone. My best wishes to all whose lives have been changed by this disaster -- it is all incredibly sad. Such a beautiful place and such great people.

Is Sonoma OK? John and Collette Altman, who own Aircraft Records, live in the Northeast part of town. We haven't heard from them, and hope they're coming through this OK.
