These pictures are fairly dated. The second picture would now show the disassembled Horton 229 in the upper left, with the Lippisch nearby and the third picture would have the Sopwith Camel and Vandersarl Bleriot in place of the Stearman (which has been moved to a location near the Hurricane).

They are dated, 2009 but I was just restoring some old post due to the Photobucket mess and I think folks will like to see them. Feel free to add any updates..We seem to be losing a lot of museums in the US especially armor so I thought I keep up some of the photos on the CDSG site.

I sure wish they display both Shoo-Shoo Baby and The Belle together. Two 91st BG combat vets in one spot. That's some serious history. Seems a shame to stick her in storage

Considering the museum's long-time lack of interest in the type (really, they did nothing with The Swoose in 50+ years while restoring types less significant to US history and giving preference to axis oddities), I wouldn't be surprised to stick her outside in the parking lot as a sign or playground.

I have been asking if both B-17s will be together for some time at the USAFM and cant seem to get a good answer.

NASM has a B-25 and other airframes that need to be on display but I think a second building may be needed first.

The latest Aerovintage news ( http://www.aerovintage.com/b17news.htm ) is reporting Shoo-Shoo Baby will be placed in storage in Dayton until NASM is ready to display it. Shame it wont be on display with the Belle. I'd think either museum would be able to keep it on display, they both have some pretty large display hangers to work with.

Although there is space in some halls, especially the Korea/Vietnam one, space is very tight in the WW2 gallery. Somehow they keep stuffing new restorations in there, but it can't go on forever. They ought to think about some kind of expansion of the WW2 space, maybe just by stretching the existing structure. Then they could think about displaying 2 B-17s, fitting in the Helldiver and bringing the Ventura inside. In due course they probably will acquire some USSR WW2 types and have to decide where to put them. I would donate to a WW2 expansion as their next capital project.

I've been lucky enough to have visited both the mall and UH twice in the last three years. My thought at the time was to reshuffle some of the aircraft downtown and to add a wing to Udvar Hazy. The Space shuttle and satellites have their own wing. Would like to see a "Skunkworks" wing with the german experimental designs and most of their non standard aircraft in there. It would include the Horten 229, the Lippisch flyng wing, Me-163 rocket fighter, the Me-262, jet bombers, etc. Maybe include odd types like the Vought Flying flapjack, the Curtiss XP-55 and some of the other odd designs . The space wing really captures the imagination and the research and "what if" wing could also really capture one's imagination.
